Dr. Michael Somogyi (March 7, 1883 – July 21, 1971) was a Hungarian-American professor of biochemistry at Washington University and the Jewish Hospital of St. Louis. He prepared the first insulin treatment given to a child with diabetes in the USA in October 1922. Somogyi later showed that excessive insulin makes diabetes unstable in the Chronic Somogyi rebound to which he gave his name. Ervin V. Somogyi (born 1944) is a maker of high-end steel string guitars. He is known for his craftsmanship, and places particular emphasis on the voicing of his instruments' soundboards. He is also an influential teacher. Background Born in Budapest, Hungary, Ervin Somogyi fled Europe with his family during World War II. After living in Austria, England, Cuba and Mexico, he eventually moved to the United States at age 15. Somogyi Effect
Chronic Somogyi rebound is a contested explanation of phenomena of elevated blood sugars experienced by diabetics in the morning. Also called the Somogyi effect and posthypoglycemic hyperglycemia, it is a rebounding high blood sugar that is a response to low blood sugar. When managing the blood glucose level with insulin injections, this effect is counter-intuitive to people who experience high blood sugar in the morning as a result of an overabundance of insulin at night. Jennie Renee Somogyi (pronounced sa-mo-JEE or sum-O-gee; born ) is an American former ballet dancer. She joined the New York City Ballet in 1993, at age 15, became a principal dancer in 2000, and retired in 2015. Early life and training Jennie Renee Somogyi was born in Easton, Pennsylvania, to a mechanic father and receptionist mother, and was raised in Alpha, New Jersey. She first trained in gymnastics at the Parkettes National Gymnastics Training Center in Allentown, Pennsylvania at age 6. Due to her talents, she was placed with older children. The instructor at the center recommended Somogyi to also study dance as other children also do so. László Somogyi (25 June 1907 in Budapest, Austria-Hungary – 20 May 1988 in Geneva, Switzerland) was a Hungarian conductor. Biography Somogyi received his musical training under Zoltán Kodály and Leo Weiner at the Ferenc Liszt Academy at Budapest, where he was later to become leading professor of the Conductor's Class. While in Hungary he founded and led the Symphonia Orchestra, was Chief Conductor of the Hungarian Broadcasting, and guested with the Hungarian State Opera. He conducted in Poland, East Germany, Romania, Yugoslavia and Bulgaria, as well. In 1956 he left Hungary and was active all over the world, including South America.
