Dag Solstad
Dag Solstad (16 July 1941 – 14 March 2025) was a Norwegian novelist, short-story writer and dramatist whose work has been translated into 20 languages. Solstad wrote nearly 30 books and was the only author to have received the Norwegian Literary Critics' Award three times. Other awards include the Mads Wiel Nygaards Endowment in 1969, the Nordic Council Literature Prize in 1989, for ''Roman 1987'' and the Brage Prize in 2006 for ''Armand V''. Biography Solstad was born in Sandefjord to merchant Ole Modal Solstad and Ragna Sofie Tveitan. After receiving his examen artium, he worked as a teacher in Kabelvåg and as a journalist for the newspaper '' Tiden''. He then enrolled at the University of Oslo, where he contributed to the literary magazine '' Profil''. Solstad Offshore () is a Norwegian offshore service and supply ship shipping company that operates 89 vessels and including 26 construction service vessels, 21 anchor handling tug supply vessels and 42 platform supply vessels. The company is based in Skudeneshavn, but also has offices in Ålesund, Aberdeen, Rio de Janeiro, Perth, Singapore, Manila and Odesa. The company has been renamed to Solstad Offshore from Solstad Farstad on 3rd Oct 2018. History The company was founded as Solstad Rederi by Johannes Solstad in 1964, in a town called Skudeneshavn, on the island of Karmøy, where it is still headquartered to this day. It started off with ten bulk carriers in the range of to , but entered the offshore supply sector in 1973 with the delivery of four supply ships. Solstad Church
Solstad Church () is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Bindal Municipality in Nordland county, Norway. It is located along the Bindalsfjorden in the village of Holm, Norway, Holm. It is one of the two churches for the Bindal parish which is part of the Sør-Helgeland prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Sør-Hålogaland. The white, wooden church was built in a long church style in 1888 using plans drawn up by the architect Ole Scheistrøen. The church seats about 300 people. History The earliest existing historical records of the church date back to the year 1641, but the church was likely built long before that time. The first church at Solstad was built about to the northeast of the present church site in Holm, Norway, Holm. Arve Solstad
Arve Solstad (15 November 1935 – 3 June 2016) was a Norwegian newspaper editor. He was born in Orkdal Municipality as a son of farmer Johan Solstad (1896–1989) and Marit Skauge (1910–2000). He finished his secondary education in Orkdal in 1955, worked one year as editor-in-chief of '' Akershus Folkeblad'' before enrolling in studies of political science at the University of Oslo. He wrote for the newspaper ''Dagbladet'', including summaries of debates in the Norwegian Students' Society. He was hired permanently in ''Dagbladet'' after graduation in 1964. Also, in 1961 he married nurse Inger Marie Richter. He won the Narvesen Prize for journalism already in 1968. From 1969 to 1973 he was the political editor of the newspaper, and in 1973 he became editor-in-chief. Alfred Solstad (January 23, 1884 – March 20, 1973) was an American farmer, businessman, and politician. Solstad was born on a farm in Bygland Township, Polk County, Minnesota. He lived in Fisher, Minnesota, was a cattle farmer and was involved with the insurance business. Solstad served in the Minnesota Senate from 1935 to 1946. Nils Solstad (born 27 July 1963) is a retired Norwegian football defender. Hailing from Mortensnes in Tromsø, Solstad played youth football for IF Fløya and got one senior match before moving to Tromsø IL in 1981. He made his debut in 1982 and became a stalwart until his retirement after the 1993 season. He helped win the 1986 Norwegian Football Cup. In 1997 he was player-manager of Porsanger IL.
