Solano County Library
The Solano County Library is a public library system serving the cities of Dixon, Fairfield, Rio Vista, Suisun City, Vacaville and Vallejo, California. The library system consists of nine public libraries, the Solano County Law Library, and the Solano County Library Adult Literacy Program. The city of Benicia, California, while located in Solano County, has a public library that is not a part of the Solano County Library system. It is a partner of the Solano Partner Libraries & St. Helena (SPLASH) Consortium. Solano County Library offers library materials, resources, information, entertainment and lifelong learning opportunities for the people of Solano County. History The Solano County Library was established in 1914 by the county's board of supervisors. For its first two decades of service the library collection was kept in various locations until a permanent building was constructed for library use in 1931. Solano County () is a county located in the U.S. state of California. As of the 2020 census, the population was 453,491. The county seat is Fairfield. Solano County comprises the Vallejo–Fairfield, CA Metropolitan Statistical Area, which is also included in the San Jose–San Francisco–Oakland, CA Combined Statistical Area. Solano County is the northeastern county in the nine-county San Francisco Bay Area region. A portion of the South Campus at the University of California, Davis is in Solano County. Dixon is a city in northern Solano County, California, United States, located from the state capital, Sacramento. It has a hot-summer mediterranean climate on the Köppen climate classification scale. History The first semi-permanent European settlement to develop in the Dixon area emerged during the California Gold Rush of the mid-19th century when the community of Silveyville was founded in 1852 by Elijah Silvey as a halfway point between the Pacific coast and the rich gold fields of Sacramento along a route commonly traveled by miners. In 1868, Central Pacific railroad came through the area and missed Silveyville by a few miles. Fairfield is a city in and the county seat of Solano County, California, in the North Bay sub-region of the San Francisco Bay Area. Vacaville is a city located in Solano County in Northern California. Sitting approximately from Sacramento and from San Francisco, it is within the Sacramento Valley. As of the 2020 census, Vacaville had a population of 102,386, making it the third largest city in Solano County. History Prior to European contact, the indigenous Patwin tribe lived in the area with the Ululato tribelet establishing a chiefdom around the Ululato village in what is now downtown Vacaville along the Ulatis Creek. Benicia ( , ) is a waterside city in Solano County, California, located in the North Bay region of the San Francisco Bay Area.
