Sokoto (Hausa language, Hausa: ; Fulfulde, Fula: , ''Leydi Sokoto'') is one of the 36 states of Nigeria, located in the extreme northwest of the country. It is bounded by Niger, Republic of the Niger to the north and west for 363 km (226 miles), and the states of Zamfara State, Zamfara to the east, and Kebbi State, Kebbi to the south and west, partly across the Ka River. Its capital and largest city is the Sokoto (city), city of Sokoto. Sokoto is located near to the confluence of the Sokoto River and the Rima River. Sokoto (city)
Sokoto is a major city located in extreme north-western Nigeria, near the confluence of the Sokoto River and the Rima River. As of 2006, it had a population of over 427,760. Sokoto is the modern-day capital of Sokoto State and was previously the capital of the north-western states. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal
Aminu Waziri Tambuwal (born 10 January 1966) is a Nigerian lawyer and politician who has served as Senator for Sokoto South since 2023. He served as the governor of Sokoto State from 2015 to 2023. He is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, and served as the 12th Speaker of the House of Representatives of Nigeria from 2011 to 2015. Tambuwal represented the Tambuwal/ Kebbe Federal Constituency of Sokoto State as an honorable member in the House of Representatives from 2003 to 2015. Aliyu Wamakko
Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko (born 1 March 1953) is a Nigerian politician who served as governor of Sokoto State, between 2007 and 2015. Background Wamakko was born on 1 March 1953 in Wamakko, Sokoto State. He spent five years (1968-1972) at the Sokoto Teachers' College. After graduation, he worked as a teacher from 1973 to 1977 before being admitted to the University of Pittsburgh in the United States. He graduated with a B.Sc. in August 1980. Returning to Nigeria, he taught at Sokoto Teachers College. Wamakko took a job as Principal Assistant Secretary of Zurmi Local Government Area (LGA), later being promoted to Acting Secretary. Kebbi State
Kebbi State (; Fulfulde: Leydi Kebbi 𞤤𞤫𞤴𞤣𞤭 𞤳𞤫𞤦𞥆𞤭) is a state in northwestern Nigeria, bordered to the east and north by the states of Sokoto and Zamfara, and to the south by Niger State while its western border forms part of the national borders with Benin Republic and Niger. Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto (born 1 January 1970) is a Nigerian politician who is the Governor of Sokoto State. He was a former commissioner and was the deputy governor of Sokoto State from 2015 until his resignation in 2018. Biography Ahmed Aliyu was born on 1 January 1970, in Tudun wada at Sokoto metropolis, Sokoto state, Nigeria. He has worked as a cashier, an auditor and an accountant.
