''Sport Goofy in Soccermania'' is an animated television special produced by Walt Disney Feature Animation for The Walt Disney Company. It originally aired May 27, 1987, on NBC. During its television debut it was preceded by a mockumentary showing past Goofy cartoons of him getting everything wrong, and leading into the cartoon special where the audience is finally shown a competent, athletic Goofy. The special also marks the animated debut of some characters from the Donald Duck universe originating from the comics, including the Beagle Boys, Gyro Gearloose and Little Helper, although in the case of the last two having only a brief cameo appearance. Plot Huey, Dewey, and Louie request Scrooge McDuck donate $1.49 to buy a championship trophy for their new soccer team, which Scrooge gasps is very expensive. Scrooge McDuck
Scrooge McDuck (occasionally stylized as $crooge McDuck) is a cartoon character created in 1947 for The Walt Disney Company by Carl Barks. Appearing in Disney comics, Scrooge is a Scottish-born American anthropomorphic duck. Like his nephew, Donald Duck, he has a yellow-orange bill, legs, and feet. He typically wears a red or blue frock coat, top hat, pince-nez glasses, and spats varying in color. He is portrayed in animation as speaking with a Scottish English, Scottish accent. Originally intended to be used only once, Scrooge became one of the most popular characters in the Disney comics world, as well as Barks' signature work. Scrooge is an extremely rich duck who lives in the fictional city of Duckburg (which is also Donald Duck and Huey, Dewey, and Louie's home city) in the fictional U.S. state of Calisota (a blend of California and Minnesota), whose claimed location is in real-world California, United States. Matthew O'Callaghan
Matthew O'Callaghan is an American film director, animator, writer, and storyboard artist whose credits include directing the 2006 film Curious George (film), ''Curious George'' and co-creating the television series ''Life with Louie''. Life and career In 1995, he co-created the animated sitcom series ''Life with Louie'' which ran from 1995 to 1998. He worked on various Warner Bros. and ''Looney Tunes'' projects such as ''Coyote Falls, Fur of Flying, I Tawt I Taw a Puddy Tat, Flash in the Pain, Rabid Rider,'' and ''Daffy's Rhapsody'', in which he served as the director for all three short films, in which the shorts debuted in 2010, focusing on Wile E. Coyote and the Road Runner. For his work on ''Daffy's Rhapsody'', he was nominated at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in 2012. Beagle Boys
The Beagle Boys are a group of cartoon characters created in 1951 by Carl Barks for the Donald Duck universe. They are a family clan of Organized crime, organized criminals who constantly try to rob Scrooge McDuck. Their introduction and first appearance was in "Terror of the Beagle Boys" (''Walt Disney's Comics and Stories'' No. 134, November 1951), although in this story they only appear in the last frame and have no lines. They appear again in the next issue in a similar fashion, in ''The Big Bin on Killmotor Hill'' (''Walt Disney's Comics and Stories'' No. 135, December 1951). The Beagle Boys in comics Barks/Rosa universe The Beagle Boys were originally created by Carl Barks and made their first appearance in the 10-page story "The Terror of the Beagle Boys" (WDC #134) that was first published in November 1951.
