Slater And Devil Fires
The Slater and Devil fires were two fires that burned in Northern California and Southern Oregon during the 2020 California wildfire season. The fires burned , claimed two lives, injured 12 people, and were 100% contained on November 16. The fires caused some highway reconstructions and forest closures. Progression The Slater and Devil fires were first reported on September 8, 2020, west of Happy Camp, California. The Slater fire crossed the Oregon border into Josephine County, Oregon, within hours of initial attack, with little containment. By November 8, the Slater fire was 87% contained and the Devil fire was 67% contained, at and respectively. Both fires were declared contained on November 16, 2020. Siskiyou County (, ) is a county in the northernmost part of the U.S. state of California. As of the 2020 census, the population was 44,076. Six Rivers National Forest
The Six Rivers National Forest is a U.S. National Forest located in the northwestern corner of California. It was established on June 3, 1947 by U.S. President Harry S. Truman from portions of Klamath, Siskiyou and Trinity National Forests. Its over one million acres (4,000 km2) of land contain a variety of ecosystems and of old growth forest. Klamath Theater Complex Fire
The Klamath Theater Complex Fire, also known as the Bear Wallow Complex Fire, was the largest wildfire of the 2008 California wildfire season. The complex fire originated as 11 separate wildfires, before merging into a single massive complex fire that burned in Northern California, and lasted for over 3 months. 2020 Oregon Wildfires
The 2020 Oregon wildfire season was one of the most destructive on record in the state of Oregon. The season is a part of the 2020 Western United States wildfire season. The fires killed at least 11 people, burned more than of land, and destroyed thousands of homes. Timeline The Oregon Department of Forestry declared fire season beginning on July 5, 2020, signaling the end of unregulated debris burning outdoors. In early September, unusually high winds and continued dry weather caused the rapid expansion of multiple wildfires in Oregon. Over 1,000,000 acres were burned, and about 40,000 people were evacuated, with about 500,000 people in evacuation warning areas. State Route 96 (SR 96) is a state highway in the U.S. state of California that follows the Trinity and Klamath Rivers between State Route 299 in Willow Creek and Interstate 5 near Yreka in Northern California. Gasquet (, ; Tolowa: ''Mvs-ye'') is an unincorporated community in Del Norte County, California, United States, southwest of the Oregon border and northeast of Crescent City. The name is in honor of Horace Gasquet. Horace Gasquet was the owner of the gold mines, hotel, railway, bank and post office; he was also the founder of Crescent City and Happy Camp. A post office operated at Gasquet from 1879 to 1902 and from 1949 to present. Gasquet is located in the Smith River National Recreation Area. Klamath National Forest is a national forest, in the Klamath Mountains and Cascade Range, located in Siskiyou County in northern California, but with a tiny extension (1.5 percent of the forest) into southern Jackson County in Oregon. Happy Camp (Karuk: ''athithúf-vuunupma'') is a census-designated place (CDP) in Siskiyou County, California in the United States. Its population is 905 as of the 2020 census, down from 1,190 from the 2010 census. The town of Happy Camp "The Heart of the Klamath" is located on State Route 96, about west of Interstate 5 and northeast of Willow Creek. The town of Takilma, Oregon is accessible from Happy Camp (which is nearly away).
