Slangerup
Slangerup is a town in Frederikssund Municipality, about 30 km north-west of central Copenhagen, in the Capital Region of Denmark. The town of Slangerup The town was established by the Viking Slangir at the time of Harald Bluetooth. King Eric I of Denmark (ca. 1070-July 1103), was born in Slangerup. In the 13th century the town was the scene of activities involving both Bishop Absalon and Valdemar the Great. Thomas Kingo grew up and was priest in the town during the 17th century. The municipality of Slangerup Until 1 January 2007, Slangerup was also a municipality covering an area of 46 km² with a total population of 9,237 (2005). Slangerup Municipality ceased as a result of the 2007 Municipal Reform (''Kommunalreformen''), being merged into Frederikssund municipality along with Jægerspris and Skibby municipalities. Slangerup Speedway Klub is a motorcycle speedway club from Slangerup in the Frederikssund Municipality of Denmark, who compete in the Danish Speedway League. The team have won the Danish Speedway League title six times. Track The track called the Slangerup Speedway Center is located on the western outskirts of Slangerup, on Hørup Skovvej 5A. History 1929 to 1966 Although the club were formed during the Easter of 1967 by Børge O. Christiansen, the history of speedway in Slangerup is linked by the founding of the Frederiksborg Amts Motorklub (FAM) on 14 August 1929. Slangerup Speedway Center
Slangerup Speedway Center is a motorcycle speedway facility located on the western outskirts of Slangerup, Denmark. The track is on the Hørup Skovvej road. The stadium is the home track for the Slangerup Speedway Klub. History The track opened in the early 1970s and hosted the speedway clubs Kulsvierne (the Charcoalers), Drabanterne (The Guardsmen) and Skovtroldene (The Forest Trolls). On 22 May 1977, a second smaller moped track opened. In 1993, the Speedway Center hosted a round of the 1993 Speedway World Team Cup. Thomas Kingo
Thomas Hansen Kingo (15 December 1634 – 14 October 1703) was a Danish bishop, poet and hymnwriter born in Slangerup, near Copenhagen. His work marked the high point of Danish baroque poetry. Early life and education His parents were Hans Thomsen Kingo and Karen Sørensdatter. His father was born in Crail, Scotland, and moved to Helsingør, Denmark, as a two-year old; he became a weaver of modest means. The name ''Kingo'' is a shortening of the Scottish name ''Kinghorn''. Although his parents were not wealthy, he was sent to Frederiksborg Latin School at the age of 16 in 1650. He studied theology at the University of Copenhagen, enrolling in 1654 and graduating in 1658. Career Kingo started his career by working as a private tutor at Frederiksborg Castle. Eric I Of Denmark
Eric I ( – 10 July 1103), also known as Eric the Good or Eric Evergood (), was King of Denmark following his brother Olaf I Hunger in 1095. He was a son of Sweyn II. His mother's identity remains unknown. He married Boedil Thurgotsdatter. Biography Eric was born in the town of Slangerup in North Zealand - the largest Danish island. During the rule of his half-brother Canute IV he was an eager supporter of the king, but he was spared during the rebellion against Canute. Eric remained at the royal farm instead of accompanying Canute to St Albans priory in Odense, where Canute was killed. Eric talked his way off the farm and fled to Zealand and then to Scania, which was part of Denmark during that time. Olaf I Hunger was elected King of Denmark, but his reign was short. Frederikssund Municipality
Frederikssund Kommune () is a municipality () on the shores of Roskilde Fjord in the northern part of the island of Zealand (''Sjælland'') in eastern Denmark. On 1 January 2007, the municipality was enlarged to include the old Jægerspris, Slangerup, and Skibby municipalities. It now covers an area of 250 km2 and has a population of 47,052 (1. Peter Beier Chokolade, usually referred to as Peter Beier, is a Danish premium chocolate manufacturing and retailing company founded by Linda and Peter Beier in 1996. It is based at the Ørsholt estate outside Helsingør. History Peter Beier was born in Slangerup in 1965. He was educated as a pastry chef in Stubbekøbing on the island of Falster in 1985 and headed Magasin du Nord's chokolaterie from 1987. Linda Beier has a law degree from University of Copenhagen. Jesper Hansen (born 31 March 1985) is a Danish professional association football, footballer who plays as a goalkeeper (association football), goalkeeper for Aarhus Gymnastikforening, AGF.
