René & Angela
René & Angela were an American R&B duo consisting of musical artists and producers René Moore and Angela Winbush. They formed in 1977 and disbanded in 1986. They are most remembered for their 1985 song "I'll Be Good". Career They recorded three albums for Capitol Records: their 1980 self-titled debut ''René & Angela'', the second album ''Wall to Wall'' and their final album for the label, 1983's ''Rise''. They later moved to Mercury Records to release 1985's ''Street Called Desire''. Despite the success of the album, the duo disbanded by the end of 1986. Disagreements and conflicts caused tension with the two singers. Moore claimed the source of tension was due to Winbush lending her songwriting and production talents to other artists – most notably, The Isley Brothers, with whom she wrote and produced their 1987 album '' Smooth Sailin'''. However, Winbush said the demise of the group was due to Moore's violent behavior- including an onstage incident in Cleveland, Ohio i ... Comin' Through
''Comin' Through'' is an album by the American jazz trumpeter Eddie Henderson recorded in 1977 and released on the Capitol label. The album rose to No. 6 on the Blues & Soul Top British Soul Albums chart. Overview Artists such as Patrice Rushen, Lee Ritenour, Dianne Reeves, Philip Bailey and James Mtume appeared on the album. Critical reception The ''Allmusic'' review by Richard S. Ginell says, "In 1977, Eddie Henderson slipped into the clutches of Capitol Records, which didn't have much of a jazz division and predictably didn't know how to showcase its adventurous new trumpeter. First and foremost, they thought they could turn him into a pop/disco star -- and so, that idiot beat turns up on most of the tracks here... the deadliest element here is the mostly mediocre material that Henderson has to work with, and thus, his occasionally lost-sounding horn is largely spent on lost causes. First Course
''First Course'' is the debut album by jazz guitarist Lee Ritenour. The album was released on LP by Epic Records in 1976 and on CD by Columbia Records in 1990. Reception ''First Course'' was made when Ritenour was considered the best session musician in Los Angeles next to guitarist Larry Carlton. He recorded the album with peers from Dante's and the Baked Potato club in Studio City, California. AllMusic called the album an "artifact of the early L.A. jazz/funk sound". Ritenour worried about the album. "I was still thinking as a studio musician, and I was very worried about having my own identity on the guitar, because up until that time my job as a studio musician had been to be a 'chameleon'...it wasn't until several years later that I felt more comfortable with who I was stylistically." Financial problems plagued the album because the "sound perplexed studio executives," who were looking for the next ''Bitches Brew'' or ''Return to Forever''. This was melodic rhythm and blu ... Willie Tee
Wilson Turbinton (February 6, 1944 – September 11, 2007), professionally known as Willie Tee, was an American keyboardist, songwriter, singer, producer and notable early architect of New Orleans funk and soul, who helped shape the sound of New Orleans for more than four decades. Career Tee arranged, co-wrote and led the band on the Wild Magnolias' self-titled 1974 debut album. The popularity of that recording, and the subsequent ''They Call Us Wild'', introduced the Mardi Gras Indians' street-beat funk to the world. Tee grew up in the Calliope Projects in New Orleans. His earliest influences ranged from the rhythm and blues of Professor Longhair to the jazz of John Coltrane. He made his first recordings for the local AFO Records in 1962 while still a teenager. Three years later, he cut "Teasin' You", a soulful, mid-tempo composition for Atlantic Records. His "Walking Up a One-Way Street" and "Thank You John" were also popular hits.
