Skała (album)
''Skała'' is a studio album by Polish singer Kayah, released in 2009 by Kayax. Background ''Skała'' was Kayah's first studio album in six years and her first released by her own record label, Kayax (distributed by EMI Music Poland). The title ("rock" in Polish) is a nod to the singer's 1995 breakthrough album, '' Kamień'' ("stone"). Musically, ''Skała'' continues ''Kamień''s soul and jazz-inspired sound. To promote the album, Kayah embarked on an acoustic concert tour and released two singles: "Jak skała" and "Ocean Spokojny już". ''Skała'' debuted at number 1 in the Polish albums chart and was certified platinum the following month. By March 2011, the album had sold in nearly 40,000 copies. ''Skała'' was nominated to the Fryderyk award for the Pop Album of the Year and Best Artwork as well as for the Best Pop Album in the Superjedynki contest. Katarzyna Magdalena Rooijens (née Szczot; born 5 November 1967 in Warsaw), professionally known as Kayah, is a Polish people, Polish singer-songwriter performing a variety of music genres, including Pop music, pop, soul music, soul, jazz, world music, world and dance music, dance. She has also experimented with disco, funk, electronica as well as Balkan music, Balkan and Jewish music. Kayah released her first self-written album in 1995 and has since established herself as one of the most critically and commercially successful Polish singers. OLiS (Oficjalna Lista Sprzedaży; ) is the official chart of the 100 highest selling music albums in Poland. The chart exists since 23 October 2000 and is provided by ZPAV. Until January 2023 the chart consisted of 50 albums, based only on physical sale. Since January 2023 the chart consists of 100 albums and is based on both physical sale (compiled by Kantar Polska) and listeners in four streaming services (compiled by Ranger agency): Spotify, YouTube (including YouTube Music and YouTube Premium), Apple Music and Deezer. The Polish Society of the Phonographic Industry (; ZPAV) is the trade organization that represents the interests of the music industry in Poland, and the Polish chapter of the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI). Founded in 1991, it is authorised by the Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage to act as a copyright collective in the field of phonogram and videogram producers' rights. ZPAV publishes the Polish Music Charts and awards music recording sales certifications. It also issues the Fryderyk annual award for Polish music. The Polish music charts are provided by ZPAV, the Polish Society of the Phonographic Industry (Polish: Związek Producentów Audio-Video). Albums charts Current History In the 1970s and the 1980s, Polish music monthly ''Non Stop'' published a year-end list of the best selling albums in Poland. In the mid-1990s, two monthly sales lists were launched and published in music magazines. The first one was a top 50 compiled by ZPAV, based on shipment, not sales, which continues to be published to date. The other was a top 100 called Gorąca Setka (English: Hot 100), printed monthly in ''Gazeta Muzyczna''. This chart was compiled from actual sale figures as reported by over 130 music shops across Poland and included both albums and singles. The Fryderyk is the annual award in Polish music. Its name refers to the original Polish spelling variant of Polish composer Frédéric Chopin's first name. Its status in the Polish public can be compared to the US Grammy and British BRIT Award. Officially created in 1994 and presented for the first time in 1995, the award was initially conferred by the Polish Society of the Phonographic Industry (''Związek Producentów Audio-Video'', ZPAV). Since 1999, nominees and winners have been selected by a body called Phonographic Academy (''Akademia Fonograficzna'') which by now consists of nearly 1000 artists, journalists and music industry professionals.
