Vocalist Rob Gonzo's stay was short-lived and Warren Conditi stepped in to take up vocal as well as guitar duties. Tony Scaglione also left and was replaced by Bob Candella on drums – leaving Portaro as the only remaining Tony of the original Tony trio. The band's next album, '' Thrashback'', was to see a reunion of the original line-up, however. Whiplash (band)
Whiplash is an American thrash metal band formed in 1984 in Passaic, New Jersey. They have been centered around guitarist and vocalist Tony Portaro, who is the only remaining original member of the band. Despite never achieving major success, Whiplash has been recognized as one of the first East Coast thrash metal bands in the 1980s, and they are also notable for featuring drummer Tony Scaglione, who had been in and out of Whiplash since its inception and was a temporary fill-in for Dave Lombardo in Slayer on the latter's '' Reign in Blood'' tour. History The original lineup of Tony Portaro, Tony Scaglione and Tony Bono recorded their debut album '' Power and Pain'' for Roadrunner Records in 1985. Massacre Records is an independent record label based in Abstatt, Germany, specializing in bands from the heavier genres of metal. The label was founded in 1991 by Torsten Hartmann. ''Thrashback'' is the sixth studio album by American thrash metal band Whiplash. It was released via Massacre Records and follows the previous year's offering, ''Sit Stand Kneel Prey''. The album marked a return to the three-piece line-up which recorded the band's first two albums between 1985 and 1987 – famously all called Tony. In 1999, Massacre Records released a compilation of previously unavailable demo and live tracks, entitled ''Messages in Blood'', before the untimely death of Tony Bono. A massacre is an event of killing people who are not engaged in hostilities or are defenseless. It is generally used to describe a targeted killing of civilians en masse by an armed group or person. The word is a loan of a French term for "butchery" or "carnage". Other terms with overlapping scope include war crime, pogrom, mass killing, mass murder, and extrajudicial killing.
