Astarte was an all-female black metal band from Athens, Greece, named after the goddess Astarte. Maria "Tristessa" Kolokouri (6 April 1977 – 10 August 2014) was a Greek black metal vocalist and multi-instrumentalist. She was the frontwoman and bassist of the all-female black metal band Astarte and was also involved with the bands Lloth, Obscure Natus, Profane Serenity and Vorphalack. Early life and family Kolokouri was born in 1977 in Areopoli, Laconia, Greece. She married rock musician Nicolas Maiis. They had one son together. Rotting Christ is a Greek black metal band formed in 1987. They are noted for being one of the first black metal bands within this region, as well as a premier act within the European underground metal scene. They are also responsible for creating the signature Greek black metal sound prevalent in the early 1990s. History Rotting Christ was founded in 1987 as a grindcore act.
