Sin Poh (Star News) Amalgamated Limited was a Singapore publisher, which published ''Sin Chew Jit Poh'' () in Singapore and Malaysia, as well as '' Sin Pin Jit Poh'' () in Penang, Malaysia. The Malaysia editions were sold to a Malaysian businessman in 1982. In 1975, due to the a new legislation of Singapore, the assets and the rights to publish Singapore edition of ''Sin Chew Jit Poh'', was sold to Sin Chew Jit Poh (Singapore) Limited, but the descendant of the founder, the Aw family, retained some of the management shares. Sing Tao Holdings Limited was a Bermuda-incorporated company, but headquartered in Hong Kong. The company was listed in The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong. The company was a media and property conglomerate until it was dismantled in 2002. After selling the main media business and subsequent takeover in mid-2002, the legal person of the listed company, along with its property business, was renamed into Shanghai Ming Yuan Holdings. Sing Tao Holdings and its predecessor Sing Tao Limited were majority owned by founder Aw Boon Haw, his daughter Sally Aw and other family members for almost 50 years. In 1971, ''Eastern Sun'' was exposed for having ties to a communist agency in Hong Kong, China, and that they would be paid to not oppose the People's Republic of China on major issues and would remain neutral on minor ones. History ''Eastern Sun'' was founded in 1966 by Aw Kow, the son of Tiger Balm founder Aw Boon Haw, using HK$3 million that he borrowed from a communist news agency based in Hong Kong.
