Grüvis Malt
Grüvis Malt were an American six-piece band founded in Providence, Rhode Island in 1995. They have released seven full-length albums, one of them issued by the Lakeshore Entertainment subsidiary Lakeshore Records, and three EPs. The other albums were released independently under Grüvis Malt's self-run label, Integers Only. Grüvis Malt are known for their blending of genres (progressive rock, hip hop, jazz, and funk) and intense song writing. They are the self-proclaimed founders of the "futurock" genre, which features a blending of irregular time signatures (like math rock), unconventional chord progressions, and abnormal song structure. Because of this blending of many genres of music, Grüvis Malt are sometimes called a "musician's band." Progressive Rock
Progressive rock (shortened as prog rock or simply prog) is a broad genre of rock music that primarily developed in the United Kingdom through the mid- to late 1960s, peaking in the early-to-mid-1970s. Jazz-Funk
Jazz-funk is a subgenre of jazz music characterized by a strong back beat, electrified sounds, and analog synthesizers. The integration of funk, soul, and R&B music and styles into jazz resulted in the creation of a genre that ranges from pure jazz improvisation to soul, funk or disco with jazz arrangements, jazz riffs, jazz solos, and sometimes soul vocals. Similar genres to jazz funk include acid jazz. History Jazz-funk exhibits several distinctive characteristics. A first characteristic of jazz funk has simple structure based around one or two riffs, and second characteristic of jazz funk has a harmonic structure that allows musicians to improvise. Gavin Castleton
Gavin Castleton is a musician/songwriter/producer from Providence, Rhode Island. Originally known for his work with Gruvis Malt as keyboardist and singer, Castleton has released nine full-length albums and seven EPs as a solo artist. He has also released two full-length albums with action-adventure rock trio Ebu Gogo and two records with Orlando-based drum 'n bass hip-hop group One Drop. Castleton currently resides in Portland, Oregon.
