Sihl Valley (German: ''Sihltal'') is a river valley and belongs to the Zimmerberg-Sihltal region located in the district of Horgen in the canton of Zurich, Switzerland. Commonly ''Sihltal'' is used as the name of the Lower Sihl Valley, i.e. the area in the southwest of the city of Zürich. Geography In common The area alongside Lake Zürich had been formed as the left moraine of the Ice Age glacier, the bed of which is now the Lake Zürich and the valley of the Sihl. Zimmerberg
Zimmerberg (el. ) is a mountain and a region located in the district of Horgen in the canton of Zurich, Switzerland. Its name bases on the Old High German word ''zimbar'' in the meaning of lumber. Geography Zimmerberg mountain is located some in the southeast of the city of Zürich, between Langnau am Albis in the Sihl Valley (German: ''Sihltal'') and Rüschlikon and Horgen on the Lake Zurich, overlooking Sihl valley, the Albis hills, Lake Zurich and Pfannenstiel. Sihlbrugg
Sihlbrugg is a village and important transportation node between the cantons of Zug (ZG) and Zürich (ZH) in Switzerland. Geography Sihlbrugg is located in the Sihl Valley, at a point where the Sihl river is bridged by the road between Zug and Wädenswil. The village lies between the Albis chain and the Zimmerberg region serving as watershed between the Sihl and Lorze rivers. The village is located in the south of the so-called ''Sihlzopf'' and in the east of the Hirzel Pass. Sihlbrugg is shared by the municipalities of Baar (ZG), Hausen am Albis (ZH), Hirzel (ZH) and Neuheim (ZG). Albis
The Albis is a chain of hills in the Canton of Zürich, Switzerland, stretching for some 19 km from Sihlbrugg in the south to Waldegg near Zürich in the north. The chain forms, among others, the border between the Affoltern and Horgen districts. The best known point is Uetliberg at 870 m, overlooking the city of Zürich. Other points of interest include the Albishorn (909m.) the Bürglen (also known as Bürglenstutz, the highest peak, 914.6m.), the Schnabelburg, an observation tower, the Albis Pass, the small town of Buechenegg, and the extensive woods (known as the Sihlwald forest) on both sides of the river Sihl. Hütten is a former municipality in the district of Horgen in the canton of Zürich in Switzerland. On 1 January 2019 the former municipalities of Hütten and Schönenberg merged into the municipality of Wädenswil. History Hütten is first mentioned in 1270 as ''ze dien Hütten''. Geography Hütten has an area of . Of this area, 52.9% is used for agricultural purposes, while 36.7% is forested. Samstagern is a village in the municipality Richterswil in the district of Horgen in the canton of Zurich in Switzerland. Hüttnersee is located in the village. Demographics The population is about 2,851 with a rapidly increasing trend. Samstagern is a ribbon development, i.e. Samstagern was established alongside the street between Wädenswil and Einsiedeln. In Samstagern there are some peasant holdings, especially on the outskirts of the village. Sihl
The Sihl is a Swiss river that rises near the Druesberg mountain in the canton of Schwyz, and eventually flows into the Limmat in the centre of the city of Zürich. It has a length of , including the Sihlsee reservoir, through which the river flows. Water is abstracted from the river at the Sihlsee, leading to decreased downstream water flows and a consequent reduction in water quality. Rapid
Rapids are sections of a river where the river bed has a relatively steep gradient, causing an increase in water velocity and turbulence. Rapids are hydrological features between a ''run'' (a smoothly flowing part of a stream) and a ''cascade''. Einsiedeln (district)
Einsiedeln () is a municipality and district in the canton of Schwyz in Switzerland known for its monastery, the Benedictine Einsiedeln Abbey, established in the 10th century. History Early history There was no permanent settlement in the area prior to the early medieval period, but numerous artefacts left by prehistoric hunters, dated to the Mesolithic to Bronze Age were recovered. The original " hermitage" is associated with St. Meinrad, a Benedictine monk family of the Counts of Hohenzollern. According to legend, Meinrad lived on the slopes of Mt. Etzel from 835 until his death in 861. During the next eighty years Saint Meinrad's hermitage was never without one or more hermits emulating his example.
