Sigurd Torbjørn Sørensen
Sigurd Torbjørn Sørensen (1901–1981) was a Norwegian painter known for his landscapes and early portraits. He was born on September 7, 1901, in Antwerp, Belgium, and in 1914, he moved with his family to Norway, where his parents were originally from. Early life and education Sørensen's artistic talent was evident from a young age, and his early drawings are still preserved at his school in Antwerp. He received his first art education under the tutelage of Professor Karl Wilhelm Wefring, Wefring, after which he enrolled in the Oslo National Academy of the Arts, Oslo School for Arts and Crafts. To complete his education, he became a disciple of Carl von Hanno, Leon Aurdal, and Per Krohg. Karl Wilhelm Wefring (11 October 1867 – 28 September 1938) was a Norwegian physician and politician who served as Minister of Defence in the 1920s. Political career Wefring was first elected to the Parliament of Norway as an independent for South Hedemark for the period 1916–1818. He was the Norwegian Minister of Defence 1920–1921, 1923-1924 and 1926. Carl von Hanno (24 November 1901 – 13 February 1953) was a Norwegian painter. His early style was influenced by cubism, and politically motivated. He later developed a personal, colourful style, often portraying seascapes. Biography He was born in Kristiania (now Oslo), Norway. He was a grandson of architect, sculptor and painter Wilhelm von Hanno (1826-1882). His grandfather had operated a drawing school in Kristiania which was later operated his father Albert Oscar von Hanno (1862-1938). He was a student at the Norwegian National Academy of Craft and Art Industry in 1920 and at the Norwegian National Academy of Fine Arts 1920–22. Leon Aurdal (23 January 1890 – 25 January 1949) was a Norwegian painter. He was born in Bergen to Bastian Aurdal and Severine Grebstad. He was married twice, first to Kristmar Aurdal, and from 1944 to textile artist Synnøve Anker Aurdal. Per Lasson Krohg (18 June 1889 – 3 March 1965) was a Norway, Norwegian artist. He is best known for United Nations Security Council mural, the mural he created for the United Nations Security Council Chamber, located in the United Nations headquarters in New York City. Biography Per Krohg was born in Åsgårdstrand, Norway, the son of painters Christian Krohg and Oda Krohg. The family lived in Paris, where Per Krohg grew up.
