Until her retirement, she worked at the Land of Israel Studies and Archeology Department at Bar Ilan University where her area of focus was the Jewish community in pre-state Israel, and women and gender in Israel. Moshe Shilo (; 1920–1990) was a microbiologist working in the field of aquatic microbiology, at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He was influential in the development of modern microbial ecology . He was a life-long member of the American Society for Microbiology and was honored by being appointed their 1967 ONR lecturer, and by receiving the 1978 Fisher Award in Applied and Environmental Microbiology. His first encounter with aquatic microbiology and with an acute applied problem, came when he started to study the reasons for a 1947 severe outbreak of fish death in artificial fishponds in Israel. He showed that growth of a toxic unicellular phytoflagellate—Prymnesium parvum and the synthesis of their toxins have different optimal requirements. Rostislav Alexandrovich Shilo () (23 October 1940 – 26 April 2016) was a Soviet and Russian public figure, an honoured worker of culture of the RSFSR, a director of the Novosibirsk Zoo (1972–2016), an honorary resident of Novosibirsk and a member of the Novosibirsk city council. Biography Rostislav Shilo was born on 23 October 1940 in Dalnerechensk. His father was a biologist. During World War II his family moved to Novosibirsk. In 1961, Shilo graduated from veterinarian vocational school in Kuybyshev and went to work for the Novosibirsk Zoo. In 1962, Shilo was drafted into the Soviet Armed Forces. He served in radio-technical military unit in the Russian Far East and was demobbed in 1965. After military service, Shilo returned to the Novosibirsk Zoo.
