The East Branch of the Shanghai Museum ( zh, 上海博物馆东馆), known as the Shanghai Museum East ( zh, 上博东馆), is situated in the Pudong New Area of Shanghai, People's Republic of China. The Shanghai Museum's primary facility is located east of Dingxiang Road, west of Yanggao South Road, and north of Century Avenue. It is situated opposite the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum and the Oriental Art Center. History The East Branch has an area of around 46,000 square meters, with a total construction area of 113,200 square meters—almost double the size of the Shanghai Museum’s People's Square edifice. The exhibition space encompasses around 33,600 square meters. The edifice comprises six above-ground storeys and two subterranean levels, reaching an approximate height of 45 meters. Pudong New Area
Pudong is a district of Shanghai located east of the Huangpu, the river which flows through central Shanghai. The name ''Pudong'' was originally applied to the Huangpu's east bank, directly across from the west bank or Puxi, the historic city center. It now refers to the broader Pudong New Area, a state-level new area which extends all the way to the East China Sea. The traditional area of Pudong is now home to the Lujiazui Finance and Trade Zone and the Shanghai Stock Exchange and many of Shanghai's best-known buildings, such as the Oriental Pearl Tower, the Jin Mao Tower, the Shanghai World Financial Center, and the Shanghai Tower. The Shanghai Oriental Art Center (), abbreviated SHOAC, is one of the leading performing arts, performance and cultural facilities in Shanghai.
