Shane Jeffrey Smith (born April 4, 2000) is an American professional baseball pitcher for the Chicago White Sox of Major League Baseball (MLB). He made his MLB debut in 2025, and was named an All-Star the same season. Career Amateur career Smith attended The Governor's Academy in Byfield, Massachusetts, and Wake Forest University, where he played college baseball for the Wake Forest Demon Deacons. He underwent Tommy John surgery in 2021. Milwaukee Brewers After going unselected in the 2021 MLB draft, Smith signed with the Milwaukee Brewers as an undrafted free agent on July 27, 2021. He made his professional debut in 2022 with the rookie-level Arizona Complex League Brewers. Smith split the 2023 season between the Single-A Carolina Mudcats, High-A Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, and Double-A Biloxi Shuckers. Shane Smith (born March 1954) was the director and a founder of the Cheyenne Botanic Gardens, and an author, consultant and lecturer. Education Smith attended Colorado State University, was a Loeb Fellow at Harvard, and is a registered horticultural therapist with the American Horticultural Therapy Association. Career At age 23 in 1977, Shane Smith became the first Director of the Cheyenne Community Solar Greenhouse. It was the first large-sized 100% solar heated greenhouse and was constructed by volunteers (including Smith). Its initial mission was to provide food and meaningful activities for senior volunteers. It operated as a non-profit under the umbrella of Community Action of Laramie County and was located on the outskirts of Cheyenne, WY. Career Shane Smith played college soccer at University of Mobile, and also played with Houston-based indoor team Alamo City Warriors in the Professional Arena Soccer League, and in the USL Premier Development League with Houston Leones. He turned professional in 2011 when he signed with the Dayton Dutch Lions of the USL Pro league on April 16, 2011. Shane Kristofer Smith (born August 24, 1993) is a former American football fullback. He attended college at San Jose State. Early life and college career Born in Santa Clara, California, and raised in nearby Los Gatos, Smith attended Los Gatos High School and San José State University. With the San Jose State Spartans football team, Smith redshirted the 2012 season as a linebacker and played at running back and fullback from 2013 to 2016. During the 2015 season, Smith played mostly as a blocker for running back Tyler Ervin, who set a school single-season rushing record of 1,601 yards. Smith had far more receiving than rushing yards, accumulating only 18 rushing yards on eight attempts compared to 189 yards on 16 receptions, including two touchdowns.
