Codruț Șereș
Ioan-Codruţ Şereş (born 2 August 1969) is a Romanian engineer and politician. A member of the Conservative Party (PC), he was a member of the Romanian Senate for Maramureș County from 2004 to 2008. In the Călin Popescu-Tăriceanu cabinet, he was Minister of Economy and Commerce from 2004 to 2006. Biography He was born in Zalău, and from 1988 to 1993 attended the Technical Military Academy of Bucharest, becoming a mechanical engineer and graduating first in his class. In 1999 he earned a Master of Business Administration through a programme organised by the University of Ottawa, HEC Montréal and the Bucharest Academy of Economic Studies. Francesc Serés Guillén (born Zaidín, Spain, December 22, 1972) is a Catalan-language writer. He obtained a Fine Arts degree (1996) and another in Anthropology (1998) from the University of Barcelona and, in 2001, the title of Research Aptitude from the Pompeu Fabra University of Barcelona. With his first novel ''Els ventres de la terra'' (''The Bellies of the Earth'', 2000), he was a finalist for the Pere Calders Prize, after which he published two more novels, ''L'arbre sense tronc'' (''The Tree without a Trunk'', 2001) and ''Una llengua de plom'' (''A Tongue of Lead'', 2002). Georges Sérès
Georges Sérès (7 April 1884 – 26 June 1951) was a French professional cyclist who mainly specialized in motor-paced racing. In this discipline he won a gold, a silver and a bronze medal at the world championships in 1920, 1924 and 1925, respectively. He crashed in a 1922 race in New Bedford and had 17 fractures after being run over by a pacer. Still a teenager, he participated in the 1905 and 1906 edition of the Tour de France, but did not manage to finish either of them. In 1908 he achieved a 5th place in the highly regarded classic Paris - Tours. On the track he also won three six-day races in Paris, in 1921, 1922 and 1924. His sons Georges and Arthur Arthur is a common male given name of Brythonic origin. Its popularity derives from it being the name of the legendary hero King Arthur. The etymology is disputed. Thomas Peter "Tim" Seres (1 April 1925 – 27 September 2007) was an Australian bridge player, generally considered among the best to represent the country internationally. He was a contributor to several magazines and awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia in 1988 for his services to bridge. Born in Hungary and raised on the family farm, his parents were killed in World War II. He and his elder brother, George, survived the bombing of Budapest and the Russian occupation and were helped by their aunt and uncle to get passage to Australia in 1947; he immediately obtained a job in a textile factory despite his lack of English. Seres had played cards from the age of six and was an accomplished chess player and was soon playing bridge six nights a week to escape the tedium of his factory work. William Seres
William Seres (died ) was an English Protestant printer, starting work in about 1546, and working in partnership with John Day for a few years. Day and Seres specialized in religious works, such as those by Robert Crowley, which were largely related to theological controversies of the time. By 1550, Day and Seres were busy and successful enough to amicably separate their businesses. Seres afterwards joined partnership for a time with the printer and translator Anthony Scoloker, and in 1553 received letters patent for the printing of psalters, primers and prayer-books. However, he lost this privilege after the accession of Queen Mary to the throne in July 1553, when the entire religious climate of the country changed. He seems to have sought safety on the Continent. His letters patent were renewed with the accession in 1558 of Elizabeth I. Serica
Serica (, grc, Σηρικά) was one of the easternmost countries of Asia known to the Ancient Greek and Roman geographers. It is generally taken as referring to North China during its Zhou, Qin, and Han dynasties, as it was reached via the overland Silk Road in contrast to the Sinae, who were reached via the maritime routes. A similar distinction was later observed during the Middle Ages between "Cathay" (north) and "Mangi" or "China" (south). The people of Serica were the Seres ( grc, Σῆρες), whose name was also used for their region. Access to Serica was eased following the Han conquest of the Tarim Basin (modern Xinjiang) but largely blocked when the Parthian Empire fell to the Sassanids.
