Screen Singapore
Screen Singapore was a film festival in Singapore held from 1 August 2005 to 31 August 2005, on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the independence of Singapore, to celebrate the heritage of Singaporean cinema from pre-independence days to the present. Presenting a total of 31 feature films (17 vintage ones, from 1955 to 1978, and 14 contemporary ones from 1995 to 2005), plus 15 short films (from 1996 to 2004) over an entire month, it was and has remained the largest showcase of Singaporean cinema. Festival Organisation Organised by Phish Communications, Screen Singapore was conceptualised and curated by Shirlene Noordin and Raphaël Millet, with curatorial support from Yuni Hadi and Wenjie Zhang. It was sponsored by the Singapore Film Commission, Kodak and the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts. The Maid (2005 Film)
''The Maid'' ( zh, 女佣) is a 2005 Singaporean horror film directed by Kelvin Tong, revolving around a maid who recently arrived in Singapore from the Philippines. She has to acclimate herself to the customs of the Singapore Seventh Month, during which she struggles with supernatural forces. The maid is employed by a Teochew opera family with many secrets, who give her a place to stay in their dilapidated shophouse. The film broke the box office record in Singapore for the horror genre, making S$700,000 on its opening weekend. It won the European Fantastic Film Festival Federation (EFFFF) Asian Film Award at the 10th Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival (PiFan). The EFFFF Asian Film Award is a prize awarded to the best Asian film of the year by the federation, of which PiFan is a supporting member. Maria Menado
Liesbet Dotulong (born 2 February 1932), better known by her stage name Maria Menado, is a Malay actress and producer who is known for her contributions to Malaysian cinema in the 1950s and 1960s. Phish Communications
Phish is an American rock band formed in Burlington, Vermont, in 1983. The band is known for musical improvisation, extended Jam session#Rock, jams, blending of Music genre, genres, and a dedicated Fandom, fan base. The band consists of guitarist Trey Anastasio, bassist Mike Gordon, drummer Jon Fishman, and keyboardist Page McConnell, all of whom perform vocals, with Anastasio being the lead vocalist. The band was formed by Anastasio, Gordon, Fishman and guitarist Jeff Holdsworth, who were joined by McConnell in 1985. Holdsworth departed the band in 1986, and the lineup has remained stable since. Phish began to perform outside of New England in the late 1980s and experienced a rise in popularity in the mid 1990s. In October 2000, the band began a two-year hiatus that ended in December 2002, but they disbanded again in August 2004. ''Mee Pok Man'' is a 1995 Singaporean film directed by Eric Khoo. The film is Eric Khoo's debut feature, released under his film production company, Zhao Wei Films, after making award-winning short films for years. It was entered into the 19th Moscow International Film Festival and showed at more than 30 film festivals worldwide, winning the FIPRESCI (The International Federation of Film Critics) Award. The film stars Joe Ng as the male protagonist Johnny, a Chinese seller of noodles (mee pok), and Michelle Goh, who plays a prostitute.
