Scott Harding (musician)
Scott Harding, sometimes credited as Scotty Hard, is a Canadian producer and musician who is based in New York City and who has worked in underground hip-hop and jazz. He came to prominence as a producer for the WordSound label, which released his debut album ''Return of Kill Dog E'' in 1999. In addition to working in hip-hop, he has worked with funk-oriented jazz performers like Sex Mob, DJ Logic and Medeski, Martin and Wood. His second solo album, ''Scotty Hard's Radical Reconstructive Surgery'' (2006), was an outright jazz album released by Thirsty Ear Thirsty Ear Recordings is an American independent record label. Underground Hip-hop
Underground hip hop (also known as underground rap or simply underground) traditionally refers to hip hop music that is outside the general mainstream canon or counter-cultural in nature, usually with a heavy emphasis on emotion, lyricism, and/or social consciousness. Being outside of the mainstream, it is common for artists or songs that are considered "underground" to have little commercial success, though this is not a requirement, as many have gained massive followings, especially in the streaming era. Jazz
Jazz is a music genre that originated in the African-American communities of New Orleans, Louisiana, in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Sex Mob
Sexmob (also styled Sex Mob) is an American jazz band based in New York City that formed as a Knitting Factory vehicle for Steven Bernstein to exercise his slide trumpet. Sexmob's sets feature a high proportion of covers, usually familiar pop songs, which are given a humorous but avant-garde treatment. Bernstein points out that this is a return to a fundamental jazz tradition to take a familiar song and then disassemble and reassemble it. DJ Logic (born Lee Jason Kibler, 1972) is an American DJ primarily known for his work in nu-jazz, acid-jazz, and with jam bands. Life and career Born and raised in The Bronx, New York, Kibler displayed an early interest in hip hop, funk, and jazz music. He began practicing on the turntables and collaborating with various musicians, creating recordings best described as a contemporary soul jazz with a string hip hop feel. Kibler often tours with his own group, Project Logic, and has recorded or performed with Vernon Reid, moe., John Mayer, Medeski Martin & Wood, Bob Belden, Jack Johnson, Chris Whitley, Uri Caine, Christian McBride and others. Medeski Martin & Wood (or MMW) is an American jazz fusion band formed in 1991, consisting of John Medeski on keyboards, Billy Martin on drums, and Chris Wood on bass. The band is influenced by musical traditions including funk and hip hop and is known for an unconventional style sometimes described as "avant-groove". MMW has found moderate mainstream success, often working with guitarist John Scofield and touring on the jam band circuit.
