Scornicești
Scornicești () is a town in Olt County, Romania, with a population of 11,766. The town administers 13 villages (Bălțați, Bircii, Chițeasca, Constantinești, Jitaru, Mărgineni-Slobozia, Mihăilești-Popești, Mogoșești, Negreni, Piscani, Rusciori, Șuica and Teiuș) and has a total area of 170 km² (65 sq. mi.), being the locality with the largest area in the county of Olt, surpassing even its capital Slatina. Scornicești is situated in the historical region of Muntenia. It officially became a town in 1989, as a result of the Romanian rural systematization program. History Scornicești was the birthplace of communist leader Nicolae Ceaușescu, who lived there until the age of 11, when he left for Bucharest to become a shoemaker. Stadionul Viitorul (Scornicești)
Stadionul Viitorul is a multi-purpose stadium in Scornicești, Olt County, Romania. It is currently used mostly for football matches and is the home ground of FC Olt Scornicești. It is the 24th stadium in the country by capacity. The stadium holds 13,500 people, the capacity being restricted from 18,000 due to advanced level of degradation. Nicolae Ceaușescu
Nicolae Ceaușescu ( , ; – 25 December 1989) was a Romanian communist politician and dictator. He was the general secretary of the Romanian Communist Party from 1965 to 1989, and the second and last Communist leader of Romania. Scornicești Solar Park
Scornicești Solar Park, a large thin-film photovoltaic (PV) power system, is built on a plot of land near the town of Scornicești in Romania. The power plant is a 1-megawatt solar power system using 4,176 240 Wp panels of state-of-the-art thin film technology, and was completed in December 2011. The solar park was expected to supply 1,300 MWh of electricity per year. Construction began in September 2011 and was completed in December of the same year. Emil Cosmin Dică (born 17 July 1982 in Scornicești) is a Romanian former footballer who played as a defensive midfielder. Radu Băldescu
Radu Băldescu (16 October 1888 – 2 December 1953) was a Romanian major general during World War II. Biography Băldescu was born on 16 October 1888, at Mihăileștii de Sus, a village that now belongs to Scornicești, Olt County, Romania, in the family of a priest. He was admitted in the Infantry Officers School in 1909 and graduated in 1911, receiving the rank of 2nd lieutenant on 1 July. He fought with the 3rd Regiment ''Dorobanți Olt'' in the Second Balkan War (1913), and in World War I and its aftermath (1916–1919). He advanced in rank to lieutenant in 1914, captain in 1917, and major in 1920. After the war he was admitted to the Higher War School, which he graduated in 1921. He then moved to Sibiu, where he taught at the newly-founded Infantry and Cavalry Officers School. He was promoted to lieutenant colonel in 1929 and colonel in 1935. Romanian Rural Systematization Program
The Romanian rural systematization program was a social engineering program undertaken by Nicolae Ceaușescu's Romania primarily at the end of the 1980s. The legal framework for this program was established as early as 1974, but it only began in earnest in March 1988, after the Romanian authorities renounced most favoured nation status and the American human rights scrutiny which came with it. The declared aim of this program was to eliminate the differences between urban and rural, by the means of razing half of Romania's 13,000 villages and moving their residents into hundreds of new "agro-industrial centers" by 2000. The program gained notoriety in Europe, with protests from multiple countries – chiefly Hungary – as well as a Belgian-led initiative to save the Romanian villages by "adopting" them.
