Schmirler Curling Classic
The Schmirler Curling Classic was an annual women's curling tournament held in Regina, Saskatchewan. The tournament ran from 2004 to 2011, in honour of the late Sandra Schmirler. It is part of the Women's World Curling Tour. It was suspended in 2012 due to lack of sponsorship. Curling
Curling is a sport in which players slide #Curling stone, stones on a sheet of ice toward a target area that is segmented into four concentric circles. It is related to bowls, boules, and shuffleboard. Two teams, each with four players, take turns sliding heavy, polished granite stones, also called ''rocks'', across the ice ''curling sheet'' toward the ''house'', a circular target marked on the ice. Each team has eight stones, with each player throwing two. The goal is to accumulate the highest score for a ''game''; points are scored for the stones resting closest to the centre of the house at the conclusion of each ''end'', which is completed when both teams have thrown all of their stones once. Heather Rankin (curler)
Heather Rankin (born April 30, 1965) is a Canadians, Canadian curling, curler from Calgary. While living in Nova Scotia, she won the provincial junior championships in 1984 and would skip the Nova Scotia team at the 1984 Canadian Junior Women's Curling Championship. In 1990 she won the Nova Scotia provincial championships sending her to that year's Tournament of Hearts. She skipped the Nova Scotia team to a 9-2 record in her debut winning the all-star skip award, but lost the final to Ontario, skipped by Alison Goring. Rankin returned to the Tournament of Hearts once again in 1993, playing third for Colleen Jones. The team finished with a 6-5 record 1 game out of the playoffs. Rankin moved to Calgary c. 1997 to start a computer consulting business with her husband. Sherry Linton
Sherry ( ) is a fortified wine produced from white grapes grown around the city of Jerez de la Frontera in Andalusia, Spain. Sherry is a drink produced in a variety of styles made primarily from the Palomino grape, ranging from light versions similar to white table wines, such as Manzanilla and fino, to darker and heavier versions that have been allowed to oxidise as they age in barrel, such as Amontillado and oloroso. Jolene Campbell (born Jolene McIvor on August 12, 1981) is a Canadian curler from Regina, Saskatchewan. She currently skips her own team out of Regina. Curling career Junior career Born in Saskatoon, Campbell won a provincial junior title in 2002, skipping a team consisting of Teejay Surik, Janelle Lemon and Maegan Strueby. Sherry Anderson (born January 6, 1964) is a Canadian curler from Delisle, Saskatchewan. She is a record three-time winner of the World Senior Curling Championships for Canada. She currently coaches the Nancy Martin rink. Career Anderson has been to ten Scotties Tournament of Hearts, six as a skip. She qualified for her first Hearts by winning the 1994 Saskatchewan women's championship, defeating Leanne Whitrow in the final, 7–4. At the 1994 Scott Tournament of Hearts, her team lost in the semi-final. Anderson won her second provincial title in 1995, defeating Michelle Schneider (Englot) in the final, 7–5. From 2014–2018, she played third for Val Sweeting and with Sweeting, finished runner-up at the 2015 Scotties Tournament of Hearts and won two grand slam events (the 2016 and 2017 Tour Challenge). Cathy King (born September 3, 1959), formerly Cathy Borst (Cathy's married name was Borst - when she divorced she went back to her maiden name of King) is a Canadian curler from St. Albert, Alberta. She is a former Canadian champion skip and world championship bronze medallist, and 2013 world senior champion. Curling career King was a national junior champion in 1977 and 1978, before there was a women's world junior championship. In 1988, she played for Alberta at the Canadian Mixed Curling Championship, losing in the final. She has been in seven Scotties Tournament of Hearts (1995, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2002, 2005, and 2006).
