Satyricon (band)
Satyricon is a Norwegian black metal band formed in Oslo in 1991. Satyr and Frost have been the band's core members since 1993, and its only official members since 1997. The band's first three albums typify the Norwegian black metal style. Since its fourth album in 1999, the band has strayed from this style and included elements of traditional heavy metal in their sound. Satyricon was the first Norwegian black metal band to join a multi-national record label (EMI). History The band were formed in 1990 as EczemaPowaviolenza: by the bassist Wargod and drummer Exhurtum. In 1991, they decided to start playing black metal and change the band name to Satyricon. Satyr (Sigurd Wongraven) then joined the band. Oslo
Oslo ( or ; ) is the capital and most populous city of Norway. It constitutes both a county and a municipality. Carl-Michael Eide
Carl-Michael Eide (born 24 July 1974), also known under the stage names Aggressor, Czral and Exhurtum, is a Norwegian black metal multi-instrumentalist, vocalist and songwriter best known for his work with metal bands Ved Buens Ende, Aura Noir and Virus. Eide has played in various black metal and avant-garde metal bands, including Cadaver, Dødheimsgard, Satyricon, Ulver and Infernö, and has been a session drummer for Dimmu Borgir. Eide's drumming style consists of very little repetition and a tendency to shy away from traditional drumming. In addition to the usual harsh vocals of black metal, Eide uses a form of croon in the avant-garde metal bands Ved Buens Ende and Virus. He lost the use of his feet due to a falling accident in 2005, where he fell from a four-story building and spent several months in hospital, and has not been able to play drums since, but is still active as a vocalist, guitarist and bassist. Phil Anselmo
Philip Hansen Anselmo (born June 30, 1968) is an American musician best known as the lead singer for groove metal band Pantera, southern metal supergroup Down (band), Down, and Hardcore punk, hardcore band Superjoint, amongst other musical projects. He is the owner of Housecore Records. Anselmo is regarded as one of the most iconic frontmen in metal history, known for being particularly animated and donning a machismo attitude that became emblematic of the general theme of Pantera. Earlier in his career with the band, Anselmo took considerable inspiration from traditional heavy metal vocalists such as Rob Halford, singing in full head voice. Pantera () is an American Heavy metal music, heavy metal band formed in Arlington, Texas in 1981 by the Abbott brothers (guitarist Dimebag Darrell and drummer Vinnie Paul), and currently composed of vocalist Phil Anselmo, bassist Rex Brown, and touring musicians Zakk Wylde and Charlie Benante. ''Rebel Extravaganza'' is the fourth studio album by Norwegian black metal band Satyricon. It was released in 1999, through Moonfog Productions. In 2021, it was named one of the 20 best metal albums of 1999 by ''Metal Hammer'' magazine. Background Satyr viewed ''Rebel Extravaganza'' as an album that embodies both inhuman and anti-human characteristics: "The lyrics are very misanthropic and I feel the album itself is quite cold and cynical. It's not that emotional, it's more lifeless in a way." ''Nemesis Divina'' (Latin for 'divine nemesis') is the third studio album by Norwegian black metal band Satyricon. It was released on 22 April 1996, through Moonfog Productions. The band have described the album as "darker" and "more aggressive" than their previous work. A fully remastered edition was released in May 2016 to mark the 20th anniversary of the album.
