Satake Clan
The was a Japanese clan, Japanese samurai clan that claimed descent from the Minamoto clan. Its first power base was in Hitachi Province. The clan was subdued by Minamoto no Yoritomo in the late 12th century, but later entered Yoritomo's service as vassals. In the Muromachi period, the Satake served as Governor (''shugo'') of Hitachi Province (today Ibaraki Prefecture), under the aegis of the Ashikaga shogunate. The clan sided with the Western Army during the Battle of Sekigahara, and was punished by Tokugawa Ieyasu, who moved it to a smaller territory in northern Dewa Province (northern Honshū) at the start of the Edo period. The Satake survived as lords (daimyō) of the Kubota Domain (also known as the Akita Domain). Over the course of the Edo period, two major branches of the Satake clan were established, one ruled the fief of Iwasaki, the other one the fief of Kubota-Shinden. During the Boshin War of 1868–69, the Satake were signatories to the pact that formed the Ōuet ...

Ichirō Satake
(25 December 1927 – 10 October 2014) was a Japanese mathematician working on algebraic groups who introduced the Satake isomorphism and Satake diagrams. He was considered an iconic figure in the theory of linear algebraic groups and symmetric spaces. Satake was born in Tokyo, Japan in 1927, and received his Ph.D. at the University of Tokyo in 1959 under the supervision of Shokichi Iyanaga. He was a professor at University of California, Berkeley from 1968 to 1983. After retirement he returned to Japan, where he spent time at Tohoku University and Chuo University. He died of respiratory failure on 10 October 2014. Although they are often attributed to William Thurston, Satake was the first to introduce orbifold, which he did in the 1950s under the name of ''V-manifold''. In , he gave the modern definition, along with the basic calculus of smooth functions and differential forms. He demonstrated that the de Rham theorem and Poincaré duality, along with their proofs, carry ...

Satake Isomorphism
In mathematics, the Satake isomorphism, introduced by , identifies the Hecke algebra of a reductive group over a local field with a ring of invariants of the Weyl group. The geometric Satake equivalence is a geometric version of the Satake isomorphism, proved by . Statement Classical Satake isomorphism. Let G be a semisimple algebraic group, K be a non-Archimedean local field and O be its ring of integers. It's easy to see that Gr = G(K)/G(O) is a Grassmannian. For simplicity, we can think that K = \Z/p\Z((x)) and O = \Z/p\Z x , for p a prime number; in this case, Gr is an infinite dimensional algebraic variety . One denotes the category of all compactly supported spherical functions on G(K) bi-invariant under the action of G(O) as \Complex_c (O) \backslash G(K)/G(O), \Complex the field of complex numbers, which is a Hecke algebra and can be also treated as a group scheme over \Complex . Let T(\Complex) be the maximal torus of G(\Complex) , W be the Weyl grou ...

Satake Diagram
In the mathematics, mathematical study of Lie algebras and Lie groups, Satake diagrams are a generalization of Dynkin diagram, Dynkin diagrams that classify involutions of root systems that are relevant in several contexts. They were introduced in and were originally used to classify real form (Lie theory), real simple Lie algebras. Additionally, they also classify symmetric pairs (\mathfrak,\mathfrak) of Lie algebras, where \mathfrak is semisimple. More concretely, given a complex semisimple Lie algebra \mathfrak, the Satake diagrams made from \mathfrak's Dynkin diagram classify the involutions of \mathfrak's root system that extend to an anti-linear involutive automorphism of \mathfrak. The fixed points \mathfrak^\sigma are then a real form of \mathfrak. The same Satake diagrams also classify the involutions of \mathfrak's root system that extend to a (linear) involutive automorphism of \mathfrak. The fixed points \mathfrak form a complex Lie subalgebra of \mathfrak, so that ( ...
