Sanremo Music Festival 1966
The Sanremo Music Festival 1966 (), officially the 16th Italian Song Festival (), was the 16th annual Sanremo Music Festival, held at the Sanremo Casino in Sanremo between 27 and 29 January 1966, and broadcast by (RAI). The show was presented by Mike Bongiorno, assisted by Paola Penni e Carla Maria Puccini. Gianni Ravera served as artistic director. According to the rules of this edition every song was performed in a double performance by a couple of singers or groups. The winners of the festival were Domenico Modugno and Gigliola Cinquetti with the song " Dio, come ti amo". Modugno went on to perform the song for at the Eurovision Song Contest 1966. Mike Bongiorno
Michael Nicholas Salvatore Bongiorno (; May 26, 1924 – September 8, 2009) was an American Italian television presenter. After a few experiences in the U.S., he started working on RAI in the 1950s and was considered to be the most popular host in Italy. He was also known by the nickname ''il Re del Quiz'' ('The Quiz King'), and the peculiarity of starting all his shows with his trademark greeting: ''Allegria!'' ('Cheers!', 'Joy!'). Early years Bongiorno was born in New York City to parents of Italian descent. He moved to Turin (his mother's native city), when he was young. His father was a Sicilian-American lawyer. During World War II, he abandoned his studies and joined a group of Italian partisans. Wilma Goich
Wilma Goich (; born 16 October 1945) is an Italian pop singer and television personality. Early life and career Born in Cairo Montenotte to Dalmatian Italian parents from Zadar, Goich began her career in 1964, when she released her first single "Dopo il sole pioverà". She entered the Sanremo Music Festival five times during the 1960s: in 1965, 1966, 1967, 1968 and 1969, scoring two domestic hits with her 1966 and 1968 entries "In un fiore" and " Gli occhi miei", which peaked respectively at sixth and seventh place on the Italian charts. Alberto Testa (11 April 1927 – 19 October 2009) was a Brazilian-born Italian composer, lyricist, singer, and writer for television. Born at Santos, São Paulo, Brazil, he was known primarily for his work as a lyricist. His words were set by such songwriters as Tony Renis (such as "Quando, quando, quando" and " Grande grande grande") and Memo Remigi. Shirley Bassey and Mina are among the singers who performed his songs. Emidio "Memo" Remigi (born 27 May 1938) is an Italian singer, songwriter, and television personality. Life and career Born in Erba, Como, during his studies Remigi played piano in various groups. Ornella Vanoni (; born 22 September 1934) is an Italian singer. She is one of the longest-standing Italian artists, having started performing in 1956. She has released about 112 works between LP, EPs and greatest hits albums, and is considered one of the most popular interpreters of Italian pop music. During her long career she has sold over 65 million records. Artistic career Vanoni started her artistic career in 1960 as a theatre actress. Bruno Lauzi (; 8 August 1937 – 24 October 2006) was an Italian singer-songwriter, poet and writer. Biography Bruno Lauzi was born in Asmara, then part of the Italian East Africa, to a Catholic father, Francesco Lauzi and a Jewish mother, Laura Nahum. The New Christy Minstrels are an American large-ensemble folk music group founded by Randy Sparks in 1961. Anna Identici (born 30 July 1947) is an Italian pop/folk singer and television personality. Life and career Born in Castelleone, Cremona, the daughter of an employee of the Ferrovie dello Stato, Identici started singing as a child, participating in a number of Festivals and talent shows. Claudio Villa
Claudio Villa (born Claudio Pica; 1 January 1926 – 7 February 1987) was an Italian singer and actor. Biography Tenor Claudio Villa was born Claudio Pica in the Trastevere quarter of Rome in 1926. He recorded over 3000 songs, sold 45 million records, and appeared in 25 musicals during his career. His parents gave him the name "Claudio" in honour of Claudio Serio.
