Sanguis Et Cinis
Sanguis et Cinis (Latin: Blood and Ashes) was an Austrian gothic rock band. History In 1994, Eve Evangel met Ashley Dayour and they started Sanguis et Cinis. Their first show went badly, and it wasn't until Richard Lederer joined them in 1995 for a show in Vienna that they clicked as a band. Together, they wrote and recorded a number of songs, including ''Schicksalswölfe'' and ''Gedankensplitter'', which they put onto their first demo tape, ''Requiem 1791''. In 1996, they released their first album, ''Schicksal'', which garnered enough attention for them to be signed to MOS Records. Eve wanted some changes to the band's look, and added Celine Cecila Angel to the line-up. Arthur joined, and Ashley Dayour left to start another band. After the band recorded ''unfreiwillig abstrakt'' in 1997, Richard left to concentrate on his three other projects. Sanguis et Cinis continued as a trio with successful shows in Germany, Portugal, Italy and Austria as well as tours in Mexico, So ... Neue Deutsche Todeskunst (NDT, "New German Death Art") is a musical genre that developed in Germany in the late 1980s. It is credited with establishing the German language in the dark wave movement, although there were already such German bands as Xmal Deutschland, , and Malaria!. History In the late 1980s, a number of German musicians combined music in neo-classical, gothic rock, and darkwave styles with German philosophical texts and a highly theatrical stage show.Nym, Alexander: ''Schillerndes Dunkel. Geschichte, Entwicklung und Themen der Gothic-Szene'', Plöttner Verlag 2010, , p. 173 The music was based on post-punk, cold wave, and gothic rock of bands such as Joy Division, The Cure, and Siouxsie and the Banshees, and the synthesizer-based new wave sound of bands like Depeche Mode. Gothic Rock
Gothic rock (also called goth rock or simply goth) is a style of rock music that emerged from post-punk in the United Kingdom in the late 1970s. The first post-punk bands which shifted toward dark music with gothic overtones include Siouxsie and the Banshees, Joy Division, Bauhaus, and the Cure. The genre itself was defined as a separate movement from post-punk. Gothic rock stood out due to its darker sound, with the use of primarily minor or bass chords, reverb, dark arrangements, or dramatic and melancholic melodies, having inspirations in gothic literature allied with themes such as sadness, nihilism, dark romanticism, tragedy, melancholy and morbidity. These themes are often approached poetically. The sensibilities of the genre led the lyrics to represent the evil of the century and the romantic idealization of death and the supernatural imagination. Gothic rock then gave rise to a broader goth subculture that included clubs, fashion and publications in the 1980s, 1990 ... Alternative Rock
Alternative rock (also known as alternative music, alt-rock or simply alternative) is a category of rock music that evolved from the independent music underground of the 1970s. Alternative rock acts achieved mainstream success in the 1990s with the likes of the grunge, shoegaze, and Britpop subgenres in the United States and United Kingdom, respectively. During this period, many record labels were looking for "alternatives", as many corporate rock, hard rock, and glam metal acts from the 1980s were beginning to grow stale throughout the music industry. The emergence of Generation X as a cultural force in the 1990s also contributed greatly to the rise of alternative rock. "Alternative" refers to the genre's distinction from mainstream or commercial rock or pop. The term's original meaning was broader, referring to musicians influenced by the musical style or independent, DIY ethos of late-1970s punk rock.di Perna, Alan.
