Sandilya (Rishi)
Shandilya (IAST: Śāṇḍilya, Sanskrit: शाण्डिल्य) was a Vedic Rishi and was the progenitor of the Śāṇḍilya gotra. The name derives from the Sanskrit words Śaṇ (roughly, Full), and Dilam (Moon), thus meaning Full Moon, therefore implying Śhāṇḍilya had great devotion towards the Moon God. His descendants have a matrilineal descent from the Chandravamsha. Description Śhāṇḍilya is the son of Devala, the nephew of Surya and the grandson of Kashyapa. He is associated with the Shatapatha Brahmana (X.vi.iii.1) of the Shukla Yajurveda, with the Chandogya Upanishad (III.xiv.1) associated with the Kauthuma shākhā of the Samaveda, and with the Brihadaranyaka Upanishad (X.vi.3) which is the concluding part of the Shatapatha Brahmana. Shandilya Ashram
Shandilya Ashram (Sanskrit: शांडिल्य आश्रम) refers to the residence place and the Gurukul founded by the Vedic sage Brahmarshi Shandilya. In the Indian subcontinent, there are several locations known as ''Shandilya Ashram''. These locations are believed to be the residence places, educational institutions or penance sites related to the sage Shandilya. In the ancient Hindu texts, the sage Shandilya has been described as a renowned acharya of Vedas and spritual teachings. He travelled different parts of the Indian subcontinent to spread Vedic and spritual learning. Agnivesha
Agnivesha () is a legendary rishi (sage) in Hinduism, reputedly one of the earliest authors on Ayurveda (Indian alternative medicine). He is described to have codified the knowledge of his preceptor, Atreya, and arranged it in the form of a treatise, named the ''Charaka Samhita''. Legend Agnivesha is described to be the chief pupil of Punarvasu Atreya. The ''Agnivesha Samhita'', dated back to 1500 BCE, is based on Atreya's teachings, and is a lost text on Ayurveda. The Agniveśatantra, consisting of 12,000 verses, is stated to be the foundational text of the Agnivesha school, one of the six schools of early Ayurveda (others being Parashara, Harita, Bhela, Jatukarna, and Ksharpani). Gautama Maharishi
Gautama (, ), was a sage in Hinduism and son of Brahmin sage Dirghatamas who is also mentioned in Jainism and Buddhism. Gautama is mentioned in the Yajurveda, Ramayana, and Ganesha Purana, Gaṇeśa Pūrana and is known for cursing his wife Ahalya, Ahalyā. Another important story related to Gautama is about the creation of river Godavari River, Godavari, which is also known as Gautami. Children According to the Ramayana, Gautama's eldest son with Ahalya is Shatananda. But according to the Adi Parva of Mahabharata, he had two sons named Sharadvana and Cirakari. Sharadvana was also known as Gautama, hence his children Kripa and Kripi were called Gautama and Gautami respectively. Vishvamitra
Vishvamitra (, ) is one of the most venerated rishis or sages of ancient India. Vishvamitra is one of the seven Brahmarshi. According to Hindu tradition, he is stated to have written most of the Mandala 3 of the Rigveda, including the Gayatri Mantra (3.62.10). The Puranas mention that only 24 rishis since antiquity have understood the whole meaning of —and thus wielded the whole power of — the Gayatri Mantra. Vishvamitra is supposed to have been the first, and Yajnavalkya the last. Before renouncing his kingdom and royal status, Brahmarishi Vishvamitra was a king, and thus he retained the title of Rajarshi, or 'royal sage'. Brihadaranyaka Upanishad
The ''Brihadaranyaka Upanishad'' (, ) is one of the Mukhya Upanishads, Principal Upanishads and one of the first Upanishadic scriptures of Hinduism. Samaveda
The ''Samaveda'' (, , from '' सामन्'', "song" and ''वेद'', "knowledge"), is the Veda of melodies and chants. It is an ancient Vedic Sanskrit text, and is one of the sacred scriptures in Hinduism. Shatapatha Brahmana
The Shatapatha Brahmana (, , abbreviated to 'SB') is a commentary on the Yajurveda, Śukla Yajurveda. It is attributed to the Vedic sage Yajnavalkya.
