Samuel Eldon Homsey
Victorine & Samuel Homsey was an American architectural firm centered in Delaware and founded by the architects Victorine du Pont Homsey (1900–1998) and Samuel Eldon Homsey (1904–1994). It was one of the first architectural firms in the United States founded by married partners. Background on partners Victorine du Pont was born November 27, 1900, in Grosse Pointe, Michigan, to Antoine Biderman (or Bidermann) du Pont, Jr., and Mary Ethel (Clark) du Pont. Victorine Du Pont Homsey
Victorine du Pont Homsey (November 27, 1900 – January 6, 1998) was an American architect and member of the du Pont family. A principal in Victorine & Samuel Homsey, she was elected a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects (FAIA) in 1967, the first woman architect from Delaware and only the eighth woman nationwide to achieve that honor. Winterthur Museum, Garden and Library is an American estate and museum in Winterthur, Delaware. Winterthur houses one of the richest collections of Americana in the United States. The museum and estate were the home of Henry Francis du Pont (1880–1969), Winterthur's founder and a prominent antiques collector and horticulturist. History Estate The property where Winterthur sits was purchased by Éleuthère Irénée du Pont (E. I. du Pont) between 1810 and 1818 and was used for farming and sheep-raising. In 1837, E. I. du Pont's heirs sold 445 acres of the land to E. I. du Pont's business partner from France, Jacques Antoine Bidermann (1790–1865) and his wife Evelina Gabrielle du Pont (1796–1863) for the purpose of establishing their estate.
