Sam Allen (actor)
Sam Allen (December 25, 1861 – September 13, 1934) was an American actor known for his role as Uncle Hughey in '' The Virginian'' (1923). He founded a brewery and a hotel complex. In 1910 he left the stage and joined as an actor on the silver screen. Kenneth Daniel Harlan (July 26, 1895 – March 6, 1967) was an American actor of the silent film era, playing mostly romantic leads or adventurer types. Early life Harlan was born in Boston, Massachusetts, the son of George W. Harlan and actress Rita W. Harlan (born Sarah Wolff). He was a graduate of Saint Francis High School in Brooklyn, New York City, and Fordham University in the Bronx. Career At age seven, Harlan began acting on stage and working in vaudeville. He spent much of 1916 touring with a company of dancers that headlined future Ziegfeld performer Evan-Burrows Fontaine. ''The Sea Beast'' is a 1926 American silent drama film directed by Millard Webb, starring John Barrymore, Dolores Costello and George O'Hara. The film was a major commercial success and one of the biggest pictures of 1926 becoming Warner Brothers' highest grossing film. ''The Sea Beast'' is the first adaptation of Herman Melville's 1851 novel ''Moby-Dick'', a story about a monomaniacal hunt for a great white whale. However, the film alters the novel's plotline by establishing prequel and sequel elements that are not in the original story—such as the romancing of Esther and Ahab's safe return, respectively—and substitutes a happy ending for Melville's original tragic one. Wanda Hawley (born Selma Wanda Pittack; July 30, 1895 – March 18, 1963) was an American actress during the silent film era. She entered the theatrical profession with an amateur group in Seattle, and later toured the United States and Canada as a singer. Dorothy Dwan (April 26, 1906 – March 17, 1981) was an American film actress. Biography Born Dorothy Ilgenfritz in Sedalia, Missouri, Dwan was a WAMPAS Baby Star. She appeared in 40 films between 1922 and 1930, several of which were directed by her second husband, Larry Semon. In 1928, Dwan moved from making films to acting on stage, signing with Henry Duffy to act in his Pacific Coast theaters. Dwan married three times.
