Sailendu Nath Phukan
Sailendu Nath Phukan (1 April 1937 – 11 November 2018) or S. N. Phukan was an Indian judge and former judge of the Supreme Court of India. Career After passing LL.B. Phukan first joined Jorhat District court then started practice in Gauhati High Court in 1962. He passed Assam Judicial Service in 1963. In 1970 he joined the Government of Meghalaya on deputation and became the Law Secretary and Legal Remembrancer in January 1976. He also served as part time lecturer in Shillong Law College as well as legal advisor of various corporations of the State. Phukan was elevated as Permanent Judge of the Gauhati High Court in 1985. On 30 September 1994 he was transferred to Himachal Pradesh High Court as acting Chief Justice. In 1996 he became the Chief Justice of Orissa High Court. Orissa High Court
The Orissa High Court is the High Court for the Indian state of Odisha. The then Bengal Presidency was a vast province including present day Assam, Bihar, Jharkhand, Orissa, and West Bengal. It was difficult to administratively manage such a vast area, inhabited by people speaking in different languages and having different traditions. Administrative exigencies required separation of such areas which originally did not from part of Bengal. So, new province of Bihar and Orissa was formed on 22 March 1912. However, the said new province of Bihar and Bihar and Orissa was under the jurisdiction of Calcutta High Court. Himachal Pradesh High Court
The Himachal Pradesh High Court is the High Court of the state of Himachal Pradesh. Himachal Pradesh was born as a result of integration of twenty six Province and four Punjab hill States into a Centrally Administered Area on 15 April 1948. The Central Government promulgated the Himachal Pradesh (Courts) Order, 1948 on 15 August 1948. As per Paragraph 3 of this Order, the Court of Judicial Commissioner was established for Himachal Pradesh and the Court was housed at "Harvingtan" (Kelston area, Bharari, Shimla).
