Saharsa–Purnia Line
Saharsa–Purnia line is a single broad gauge track from to of Bihar state. The line connects Saharsa to the Mini Darjeeling of Bihar Purnia. The Saharsa–Purnia Court section falls under Samastipur Division of East Central Railway and Purnia Court–Purnia Junction section under Katihar Division of Northeast Frontier Railway. History The construction of the Purnea - Banmankhi - Murliganj and Bihariganj line, built by the East Bengal Railway, began in 1929 and was completed in 1937, passing through this station. After India’s independence, the Saharsa - Budhmaghat line was extended to Murliganj in 1954, connecting the entire Purnea - Saharsa section with -wide metre-gauge tracks. The gauge conversion work on the Purnia - Saharsa line commenced in the year 2007-08, resulting in a partial suspension of train services. 2008 Bihar Flood
The 2008 Bihar flood was one of the most disastrous floods in the history of Bihar, an impoverished and densely populated state in India. The Koshi embankment near the Indo-Nepal border (at Kusaha VDC, Sunsari district, Nepal) broke on 18 August 2008. The river changed course and flooded areas which had not been flooded in many decades. The flood affected over 2.3 million people in the northern part of Bihar. Incident On 18 August 2008, heavy monsoon rains and poor maintenance caused a breach in the Kosi embankment. Water passed through the breach at an estimated 3675 cubic meters per second (129,800 cusecs), flooding many villages in Nepal and hundreds of villages in northern Bihar. Purnia Court Railway Station
Purnia Court railway station, (station code:- PRNC), is a railway station serving the city of Purnea in Bihar. This station is managed by the East Central Railway under the Samastipur railway division. Earlier it was an MG line which has now been converted to standard BG line and lies on the Purnea–Banmankhi–Saharsa section. The BG line was inaugurated by the Railway Minister of India Suresh Prabhu on 10 June 2016. History Purnia Court railway station was opened in 1937, becoming the second railway station in Purnea, Bihar, British India.
