Saavedra, Buenos Aires
Saavedra is a barrio or neighbourhood of Buenos Aires, Argentina. It is located in the Northern end of the city, close to Nuñez and Villa Urquiza. Its northern border is Avenida General Paz. Among the main features of the neighbourhood is the Parque Saavedra (), which has large picnic areas and sports facilities. During weekends, many wealthy inhabitants of Buenos Aires pass through Saavedra en route to their larger estates and country clubs. The barrio was named after Cornelio Saavedra, president of the First Governing Board, during the May Revolution of 1810. The neighbourhood's most famous son is tango singer Roberto Goyeneche. Also, it was the cradle of Club Atlético Platense sports club. The main characters of Adolfo Bioy Casares's novel ''El Sueño de los Héroes'' () live in Saavedra. Osvaldo Andrés Cacciatore (1924–2007) was an Argentine Air Force brigadier and Mayor of Buenos Aires during the National Reorganization Process military dictatorship. His management at the head of the city of Buenos Aires was controversial for the works he carried out and for those that would only remain as proposals. Adolfo Bioy Casares (; 15 September 1914 – 8 March 1999) was an Argentine fiction writer, journalist, diarist, and translator. He was a friend and frequent collaborator with his fellow countryman Jorge Luis Borges. He is the author of the Fantastique novel '' The Invention of Morel''. Roberto Goyeneche
Roberto Goyeneche (January 29, 1926 in Saavedra, Autonomous City of Buenos Aires – August 27, 1994 in Buenos Aires) was an Argentine tango singer who epitomized the archetype of 1950s Buenos Aires' bohemian life, and became a living legend in the local music scene. Despite being of Basque descent, he was known as ''El Polaco'' ("the Pole") due to his light hair and thinness, like young Polish people of the time. He is identified with the neighborhood of Saavedra, where he grew up. Career Roberto Goyeneche was formed in the style of the tango of Carlos Gardel, later reached a more personal style characterised by his particular way of phrasing with rubato.
