Poortugaal
Poortugaal is a village (''dorp'') that is situated near the municipality of Rotterdam in the South Holland province of the Netherlands. Together with neighbouring Rhoon, Poortugaal forms the municipality of Albrandswaard. The village was first established in 15th century, following a royal land grant by the Spanish Netherlands to their local feudal vassals and supporters among the Dutch nobility. A Catholic church, a symbol of permanent settlements in the past, that dates to that period is found in the village centre. The origin of the name, ''Poortugaal'', and its presumed connection to the Kingdom of Portugal or the Portuguese is unclear. One theory links the similarity of Portugal's and Poortugaal's flags and coat of arms as an indication of local settlers' paying homage to fellow crusaders who were from Portugal. Older depictions of the coat of arms also show a shield that resembles the coat of arms of Portugal even more than the current coat of arms of Poortugaal. The ...

Hoofdklasse
The Vierde Divisie (; "Fourth Division"), formerly known as Hoofdklasse () is the second-highest league of amateur football in the Netherlands, and the fifth tier in general. Background The league was divided into two sections: Saturday and Sunday. This was a result of the traditional pillarisation (), the segregation of Dutch society. The ''Saturday'' clubs are mainly Protestant Christian clubs, who were not allowed to play on Sunday. The ''Sunday'' clubs were in general Catholic and working class clubs, whose players had to work on Saturday and therefore could only play on Sunday. Although the pillarisation ended in the 1960s and 1970s, the clubs and the league maintained this division until 2023. The Saturday Hoofdklasse and the Sunday Hoofdklasse were divided into two leagues each from the 2016–17 to 2022–23 seasons: * Clubs in the Saturday Hoofdklasse A and Sunday Hoofdklasse A were from the central, northern and western parts of the Netherlands. * Clubs in the Saturday ...

Bergen Op Zoom
Bergen op Zoom (; called ''Berrege'' in the Brabantian dialect, local dialect) is a List of cities in the Netherlands by province, city and Municipalities of the Netherlands, municipality in southwestern Netherlands. It is located in the Provinces of the Netherlands, province of North Brabant, at the provincial border with Zeeland. In 2025, the municipality had a population of 70,216. Etymology The city was built on a site where two types of soil meet: sandy soil and marine clay. The sandy soil pushed against the marine clay, accumulating and forming hills over several centuries. People called those hills the ''Brabantse Wal'', literally meaning "ramparts of Brabant". ''Zoom'' refers to the border of these ramparts and ''bergen'' in Dutch means mountains or hills. The name has nothing to do with the little channel, the Zoom, which was later built through Bergen op Zoom. History Bergen op Zoom was granted City rights in the Low Countries, city status probably in 1212. In 128 ...

KNVB Cup
The KNVB Beker (; ), branded as the TOTO KNVB Beker for sponsorship reasons, is a competition in the Netherlands organised by the Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB) since 1898. It was based on the format of the English FA Cup. Outside the Netherlands, it is often referred to as the Dutch Cup. The tournament consists of all teams from the top four tiers of Dutch league football (Eredivisie, Eerste Divisie, Tweede Divisie and Derde Divisie), as well as the 24 semi-finalists (or replacements) of the six KNVB District Cups. The finals of the tournament traditionally takes place in De Kuip, and has been held there every season since the 1989 final. The winners of the cup compete against the winners of the Eredivisie for the Johan Cruyff Shield, (equivalent to a super cup) which acts as the curtain raiser for the following season. History Early history The first attempt to hold a knock-out competition open to all clubs in the Netherlands was made in 1894, with the winners rece ...

Tweede Divisie
Tweede Divisie (; ) is the highest amateur (and historically the lowest professional) football league in the Netherlands. It was established in 1956, together with the Eredivisie and the Eerste Divisie. Between 1956 and 1960 and between 1962 and 1966, the league consisted of two divisions, Tweede Divisie A and Tweede Divisie B. The league was disbanded in 1971. Six clubs were promoted to the Eerste Divisie (AVV De Volewijckers, De Volewijckers, FC Eindhoven, VVV-Venlo, FC VVV, Fortuna Vlaardingen, PEC Zwolle, PEC and Roda JC Kerkrade, Roda JC), while the other eleven teams became amateur clubs. Plans for a new, amateur Tweede Divisie, to be made up of 4 reserve teams and 14 Derde Divisie, Topklasse clubs, were approved in a Royal Dutch Football Association, KNVB assembly in December 2014. Thus, the Topklasse, renamed the Derde Divisie (), and leagues below decremented by one level, and furthermore, promotion and relegation among the second to fourth divisions were implemented starti ...
