Río Cibuco
The Cibuco River ( es, Río Cibuco) is a river of Vega Baja, Puerto Rico. Part of the river goes through Vega Alta, Puerto Rico, Vega Alta and Corozal, Puerto Rico, Corozal municipalities. It is 23.75 miles long. Cibuco River meets Indio River. The river flooded up to 15 feet during Hurricane Maria in some neighborhoods and as late as 2019, the river floods when rains are heavy. Cibuco is a rural Barrios of Puerto Rico, barrio with an urban zone in the municipality of Corozal, Puerto Rico. Its population in 2010 was 5,387. History Puerto Rico was ceded by Spain in the aftermath of the Spanish–American War under the terms of the Treaty of Paris of 1898 and became an Insular area, unincorporated territory of the United States. In 1899, the United States Department of War conducted a census of Puerto Rico finding that the population of Cibuco barrio was 1,098. Sectors Barrios (which are now like minor civil divisions) in turn are further subdivided into smaller local populated place areas/units called sectores (''sectors'' in English).
