Russian Bots
Russian web brigades (also called Russian trolls, Russian bots, Kremlin Bots, Kremlins or Rustapar) are State-sponsored Internet propaganda, state-sponsored anonymous Internet political commentators and internet troll, trolls linked to the Government of Russia. Participants report that they are organized into teams and groups of commentators that participate in Russian and international political blogs and Internet forums using Sockpuppet (Internet), sockpuppets, social bots and large-scale orchestrated trolling and disinformation campaigns to promote pro-Vladimir Putin, Putin and pro-Russian propaganda. Articles on the Russian Wikipedia concerning the Malaysia Airlines Flight 17, MH17 crash and the Russo-Ukrainian War were targeted by Russian internet propaganda outlets. In June 2019 a group of 12 editors introducing coordinated pro-government and anti-opposition bias was blocked on the Russian-language Wikipedia. State-sponsored Internet propaganda is Internet manipulation and propaganda that is sponsored by a state. Asia-Pacific *: The former government of Afghanistan used a state-sponsored Internet troll army to push their narrative and exaggerate Afghan Taliban casualties. Sometimes the information posted by the army was picked up by uncritical sections of Afghanistan's media and reported without any additional confirmation. *: Since the Arab Spring and subsequent uprising, the Government of Bahrain has increased its political and media censorship, as well as launching propaganda disinformation. In 2019, Bahrain was listed as one of 70 countries with widespread Internet propaganda misinformation and hiring cyber hackers to censor bad news about Bahraini Government.
