Rural Municipality Of Pembina
The Rural Municipality of Pembina is a former rural municipality (RM) in the Canadian province of Manitoba. History It was originally incorporated as a rural municipality on November 1, 1890. It ceased on January 1, 2015 as a result of its provincially mandated amalgamation with the Town of Manitou to form the Municipality of Pembina. The former RM is located in the southern part of the province, along the border with the state of North Dakota in the United States. The former RM remains famous as the objective chosen by John O'Neill fin 1871 or what would become the last of the Fenian Raids into Canada from the United States. The parents of acclaimed American author Norman Maclean, Rev. John Norman Maclean and Clara Davidson, were married at Pembina on August 1, 1893. Rural Municipality Of Thompson
Thompson is a rural municipality in the Pembina Valley Region of Manitoba, Canada. It had a population of 1,259 according to the Canada 2006 Census. The RM was incorporated on 1 November 1908. It took its name from an early settler and its first postmaster, William Thompson. Thompson homesteaded on 5-5-6W in about 1874 and his home was central to the early community. The area was known locally as Thompsonville at that time. The Rural Municipality of Louise is a former rural municipality (RM) in the Canadian province of Manitoba. It was originally incorporated as a rural municipality on February 14, 1880. It ceased on January 1, 2015 as a result of its provincially mandated amalgamation with the Town of Pilot Mound and the Village of Crystal City to form the Municipality of Louise. The former RM is located in the southern part of the province, on the border with the state of North Dakota in the United States. The 2006 Census reported a population of 819 persons, a 17.2% decline from the 2001 Census figure of 989 persons. Rural Municipality Of Stanley
Stanley is a rural municipality (RM) in the province of Manitoba in Western Canada. It is located in the southern part of the province, along its border with the state of North Dakota in the United States. Since 1876, the area made up part of the Mennonite West Reserve. The municipality has a population of 8,969 as of the 2016 Canada Census. The cities of Winkler and Morden lie geographically within the municipality but are separate urban municipalities. Etymology The municipality is named for The Lord Stanley of Preston, 16th Earl of Derby, Governor General of Canada from 1888 to 1893, namesake for the Stanley Cup, which he donated. Cavalier County, North Dakota
Cavalier County is a county in the U.S. state of North Dakota. It is south of the Canada–US border with Manitoba. As of the 2020 census, the population was 3,704. Its county seat is Langdon. The city of Cavalier is in nearby Pembina County. History The Dakota Territory legislature created Cavalier County on January 4, 1873 with territory annexed from Pembina County, but did not organize the county government structure at that time. It was named for Charles Cavileer (or Cavalier) of Pembina, an early settler. The county organization was effected on July 8, 1884. Its boundaries were altered in 1883 and in 1887.
