General Rudzani Maphwanya (born 23 November 1960) is a South African military commander who served as Chief of Joint Operations from 2019 till May 2021. He was appointed Chief of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) on 1 June 2021. The Chief of the South African National Defence Force is the most senior South African military officer and the professional Head of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF). The Chief is appointed by the President of South Africa. Joint Operations Division
The Joint Operations Division is a component of the South African National Defence Force tasked with conducting Joint Operations involving the various arms of the SANDF. History The Joint Operations Division was established on 1 August 1997 during a major reorganisation of the armed forces. Before the re-organisation each arm of Service had an operations staff responsible for deploying its units as directed by the Service chief and the Chief of the SANDF. The Chief of the SANDF had an operations staff, playing a co-ordinating role. Following the re-organisation, each arm of service had to provide properly trained and equipped forces to Joint Operations. Joint Operations would then deploy these forces as necessary and revert to their parent service following the mission. The exception is the Special Forces Brigade, which is directly under the command of the Chief of the SANDF and is permanently allocated to Joint Operations. Solly Shoke
General Solly Zacharia Shoke, (born 15 August 1956) is a South African military commander. He joined uMkhonto we Sizwe (MK), the military wing of the African National Congress, in the 1970s, and served as a field commander fighting against the South African government in the 1980s. He transferred to the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) when MK was incorporated into it in 1994, and served as Chief of the South African National Defence Force 2011 to 30 May 2021. Military career Shoke received his education at Orlando High School, Orlando Township, in Johannesburg. Lt General Lindile Yam (born on 8 August 1960) is the former SANDF Chief of staff and the former Chief of the South African Army. Brigadier General Krupert Eric Nel is a retired South African Army officer. Military career Brig Gen Nel joined the South African Defence Force at the School of Engineers in 1978 as a National Serviceman, where he later became an officer. In 1980 he completed the Special Forces Basic Training and was transferred to 4 Special Forces Regiment in Langebaan.
