Roomes Stores is a group of two furniture and interior retail businesses in Upminster, England, under a shared brand, with separate ownership. Roomes Furniture and Interiors is an independent family-run furniture store which has occupied several sites in east London and is currently operating on Station Road, Upminster. It is one of largest furniture supply outlets in Western Europe. Roomes Fashion and Home is a department store in Upminster, separately operated as part of the Morleys Stores group. Prior to 2009 both stores were in common ownership. History The first general store was opened in 1888 on Green Street, Upton Park and was closed in 1935. In 1927, a store was opened on the west side of Station Road, Upminster and in 1953, another store was opened just north of the Station Road location, on the opposite side of Branfill Road. Upminster is a suburban town in East London, England, within the London Borough of Havering. Located east-northeast of Charing Cross, it is one of the district centres identified for development in the London Plan. Morleys Stores is a group of eight department stores in Greater London, a business-to-business furniture supply subsidiary called Morley's of Bicester Ltd and a department store & furniture centre called Camp Hopson of Newbury in Newbury, Berkshire. The group is named after the original store that opened in Brixton, south London as Morley & Lanceley. Note that the firm is unrelated to the London fast foods restaurant chain. Green Street is a road in the London Borough of Newham, East London, which forms much of the boundary between East and West Ham. Green Street is best known for the former Boleyn Ground, home to West Ham United from 1904 to 2016, and for its wide range of shops and market outlets. Upton Park is an area of the East London borough of Newham, centred on Green Street which is the boundary between West Ham and East Ham. West Ham United Football Club formerly played at the Boleyn Ground, commonly known as Upton Park. The term 'Upton Park' first applied to a housing estate developed to the east of West Ham Park in the 1880s. The estate took its name from the adjacent village of Upton with the suffix 'Park' added for marketing reasons. The estate's developers paid for a new station to be built which was named after the estate.
