Romanze For Cello And Orchestra (Strauss)
Richard Strauss composed his Cello Sonata in F major, Opus number, Op. 6, TrV 115, in 1883 when he was 19 years old. It was dedicated to the Czech Cello, cellist Hanuš Wihan, who gave the premiere in 1883. It rapidly became a standard part of the cello repertoire. Composition history Strauss completed the first version of the Cello Sonata on 5 May 1881. His sister Johanna was a good friend of Dora Wihan, a talented pianist and wife of the cellist Hanuš Wihan (he was known by the first name ''Hans'' in Germany), who played in the Bavarian State Orchestra, Munich Court orchestra along with Richard's father Franz Strauss, Franz. "Through these relationships, Strauss came to know Wihan and his instrument's idiomatic possibilities". He composed and dedicated the sonata for "his dear friend" (''Seinem lieben Freunde'') Hans Wihan. Richard Strauss
Richard Georg Strauss (; 11 June 1864 – 8 September 1949) was a German composer, conductor, pianist, and violinist. Considered a leading composer of the late Romantic and early modern eras, he has been described as a successor of Richard Wagner and Franz Liszt. Along with Gustav Mahler, he represents the late flowering of German Romanticism, in which pioneering subtleties of orchestration are combined with an advanced harmonic style. Strauss's compositional output began in 1870 when he was just six years old and lasted until his death nearly eighty years later.
