Roky Erickson
Roger Kynard "Roky" Erickson (July 15, 1947 – May 31, 2019) was an American musician and singer-songwriter. He was a founding member and the leader of the 13th Floor Elevators and a pioneer of the psychedelic rock genre. Biography Erickson was born in Dallas, Texas, to Roger and Evelyn Erickson, and had four younger brothers. The nickname "Roky", a contraction of his first and middle names, was given to him by his parents. His father, an architect and civil engineer, was stern and disapproving of Erickson's countercultural attitudes, once forcibly cutting his son's hair rather than allow him to grow it out Beatles-style. His mother was an amateur artist and opera singer, and encouraged Erickson's musical talent by taking guitar lessons herself so she could teach him. ''All That May Do My Rhyme'' is an album by the American musician Roky Erickson, released in 1995. It was released at the same time as a book, ''Openers II: The Lyrics of Roky Erickson'', that collected Erickson's poems and lyrics. The album was a packaging of new songs with ones issued on the 1985 ''Clear Night for Love'' EP. An unlisted track, "We Sell Soul", is a 1965 song by Erickson's band the Spades. ''All That May Do My Rhyme'' was Erickson's first studio album in almost a decade. Production The album was produced by Speedy Sparks, Stuart Sullivan, and Casey Monahan. Paul Leary, Barry "Frosty" Smith, and Charlie Sexton contributed to ''All That May Do My Rhyme''. Lou Ann Barton sang on one of the two versions of "Starry Eyes". The 13th Floor Elevators
The 13th Floor Elevators was an American rock band from Austin, Texas, United States, formed by guitarist and vocalist Roky Erickson, electric jug player Tommy Hall, and guitarist Stacy Sutherland. The band was together from 1965 to 1969, and during that period released four albums and seven singles for the International Artists record label. The Elevators were the first band to refer to their music as psychedelic rock, with the first-known use of the term appearing on their business card in January 1966. The 2005 documentary ''You're Gonna Miss Me'' specifically credits Tommy Hall with coining the term "psychedelic rock." Tommy Hall (American Musician)
Tommy Hall (born September 21, 1943) is an electric jug player from Texas. He was a founding member of the American psychedelic rock band The 13th Floor Elevators. Early life Hall was born in Memphis, Tennessee to Dr. Thomas James Hall and Margaret "Perky" Perkins, a nurse. Starting in 1961, he studied philosophy and psychology at the University of Texas at Austin, and also discovered psychedelic drugs such as LSD, which would form a major part of his philosophy. In Austin, he also met his future wife and occasional Elevators songwriter Clementine Hall (nee Tausch), who he married in 1964. They divorced in 1973. Musical career A special aspect of The Elevators' sound came from Tommy Hall's innovative electric jug. ''Pebbles'' is an extensive series of compilation albums in both LP and CD formats that have been issued on several record labels, though mostly by AIP.
