Roger Brierley
David Roger Brierley (2 June 1935 – 23 September 2005) was an English actor. Career Brierley appeared in dozens of television productions over a forty-year period. He twice appeared in '' Doctor Who'', as Trevor in ''The Daleks' Master Plan'' (1965) and as the voice of Drathro in '' The Mysterious Planet'' (1986). Brierley appeared as Mr Thoneycroft in episode 6 of ''The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin'' (1976), in the biopic ''Jinnah'' based on the life of Muhammad Ali Jinnah, in the Granada television series ''Jeeves and Wooster'' as Sir Roderick Glossop and as Michael Palin's latin teacher in an episode of ''Ripping Yarns'' called ''Roger of the Raj'', which was first shown on BBC television in 1979. He played the part of Osborne in the 1977 episode "Suddenly At Home" in the TV series ''Rising Damp''. He was also in an ''Only Fools and Horses'' episode in 1982 ("Diamonds Are for Heather"). ''Casualty'' (stylised as ''CASUAL+Y'') is a British medical drama series that airs weekly on BBC One. Created by Jeremy Brock and Paul Unwin, it was first broadcast in the United Kingdom on BBC One on 6 September 1986. The original producer was Geraint Morris. Having been broadcast weekly since 1986, ''Casualty'' is the longest-running primetime medical drama series in the world. ''Ripping Yarns'' is a British television adventure comedy anthology series. It was written by Michael Palin and Terry Jones of Monty Python fame. It was transmitted on BBC 2. Following an initial pilot episode in January 1976, it ran for two series — five episodes in September and October 1977 and three episodes in October 1979. Each episode had a different setting and characters, each looking at a different aspect of British culture and parodying pre-World War II literature aimed at schoolboys. In the title, "ripping" is a chiefly British slang colloquialism for "exciting" or "thrilling", with "yarn" used in the sense of a story. ''Housewife, 49'' is a 2006 television film based on the wartime diaries of Nella Last. Written by and starring English actress and comedian Victoria Wood, it follows the experiences of an ordinary housewife and mother in the Northern English town of Barrow-in-Furness, Lancashire, during the Second World War. It was first broadcast in the UK by ITV on 10 December 2006. Plot The Mass-Observation project was set up in 1937 by Charles Madge, a poet and journalist and Tom Harrisson, an anthropologist to 'record the voice of ordinary people'. They recruited volunteer 'observers' to report to them and in 1939 invited people to send them an account of their lives. Nella Last was one of 500 people who took up this offer. Victoria Wood (19 May 1953 – 20 April 2016) was an English comedian, actress, lyricist, singer, composer, pianist, screenwriter, producer and director. Wood wrote and starred in dozens of sketches, plays, musicals, films and sitcoms over several decades and her live comedy act was interspersed with her own compositions which she performed at the piano. William John Biffen, Baron Biffen, (3 November 1930 – 14 August 2007), was a British Conservative Party politician. A member of the House of Lords, he was previously a Member of Parliament for over 35 years, and served in Margaret Thatcher's cabinet. Early life and education The son of Victor William Biffen, a tenant farmer, of Hill Farm, Otterhampton, Bridgwater, Somerset, and his wife Edith Annie ('Tish'), John Biffen was born in Bridgwater, Somerset, in 1930.
