Robot Competition
A robot competition is an event where the abilities and characteristics of robots may be tested and assessed. Usually they have to beat other robots in order to become the best one. Many competitions are for schools but several competitions with professional and hobbyist participants are also arising. History Robotic competitions have been organized since the 1970s and 1980s. In 1979 a Micromouse competition was organized by the IEEE as shown in the ''Spectrum'' magazine. Although it is hard to pinpoint the first robotic competition, two events are well known nowadays for their longevity: the All Japan Sumo in Japan, and the Trinity College International Fire Fighting Robot Contest. Two currently high-profile events are Robocup and Robo One. Companies like Lego and VEX have also developed branded events, which they call leagues, although they function more like individual cups in regional qualifiers with finals. Eurobot
Eurobot is an international robotics contest dedicated to universities and robotics clubs. History Eurobot, whose first edition took place in May 1998 in Paris was created by Nicolas Goldzahl (president of VM Productions) with the help of the associatioPlanet Science 4 years after the creation of the French cup of Robotics. To achieve this, in early 1997, Nicolas Goldzahl and Rachid Ait Mansour (Planet Science robotics manager) traveled across Europe to convince universities to participate in this new event. They met university leaders and showed them the videos and TV reports of the first editions of the French Robotics Cup, which already had a great success in France. A first tour in 1997 made it possible to recruit universities from Finland, Italy, Switzerland and Belgium. Many other countries joined the competition in the following years. RoboSub
RoboSub is a competition whose goal is to advance the development of autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) by challenging a new generation of engineers to perform realistic missions in an underwater environment. It was launched in 1997 and is co-sponsored by thRoboNation(formerly the AUVSI Foundation) and the Office of Naval Research (ONR). The event also serves to foster ties between young engineers and the organizations developing AUV technologies. The competition is open to high school and college teams from around the world. RoboCup
RoboCup is an annual international robotics competition founded in 1996 by a group of university professors (including Hiroaki Kitano, Manuela M. Veloso, and Minoru Asada). The aim of the competition is to promote robotics and AI research by offering a publicly appealing – but formidable – challenge. The name ''RoboCup'' is a contraction of the competition's full name, "Robot Soccer World Cup” (based on the FIFA World Cup), but there are many other areas of competition such as "RoboCupRescue", "RoboCup@Home" and "RoboCupJunior". Peter Stone is the current president of RoboCup, and has been since 2019. Trinity Fire Fighting Robot Competition
Trinity College (Connecticut) has an annual firefighting robot contest, which is contested by high schools and colleges from around the world. The competition is relevant for its antiquity, being established in 1994. It is one of the oldest in the world still maintained. The Intelligent Ground Vehicle Competition (IGVC) is an annual international robotics competition for teams of undergraduate and graduate students. Teams design and build an autonomous ground vehicle capable of completing several difficult challenges. The International Aerial Robotics Competition (IARC) began in 1991 on the campus of the Georgia Institute of Technology and is the longest running university-based robotics competition in the world. Since 1991, collegiate teams with the backing of industry and government have fielded autonomous flying robots in an attempt to perform missions requiring robotic behaviors never before exhibited by a flying machine.
