The Robert Bosch Stiftung GmbH () is a German foundation that owns a majority shareholding in Robert Bosch GmbH, from which it derives its funding. The foundation was established in accordance with the wishes of Robert Bosch, who died in 1942, and conducts and finances social, cultural and scientific projects. History In 1921, when Robert Bosch drew up his will, he established the Vermögensverwaltung Bosch GmbH, with instructions to the directors to decide within thirty years of his death whether or not his shares in Robert Bosch GmbH should be transferred into it. Bosch died in 1942, and this transfer took place in 1964. In 1969 the name was changed from Vermögensverwaltung Bosch to Robert Bosch Stiftung. Robert Bosch (23 September 1861 – 12 March 1942) was a German industrialist, engineer and inventor, founder of Robert Bosch GmbH. Biography Bosch was born in Albeck, a village to the northeast of Ulm in southern Germany as the eleventh of twelve children. His parents came from a class of well-situated farmers from the region. His father, a freemason, was unusually highly educated for someone of his class, and placed special importance on a good education for his children. One of his brothers was Carl Friedrich Alexander Bosch (1843–1904), the father of Nobel laureate Carl Bosch. From 1869 to 1876, Bosch attended the Realschule (secondary-technical school) in Ulm, and then took an apprenticeship as a precision mechanic. The Robert-Bosch-Hospital (RBK) is a charitable hospital in Stuttgart, Germany, which was founded by Robert Bosch in 1936. Robert Bosch fulfilled a long-cherished wish in 1936 on the occasion of his 75th birthday and the 50th jubilee of his company: he donated a hospital to the city of Stuttgart. The Original hospital with its 360 beds opened in April 1940 and was replaced by a new building at a near-by location in 1973. The hospital is supported by the Robert Bosch Stiftung (Robert Bosch Foundation). The Foundation and the managing board of the Hospital determine the strategic development of the medical, therapeutic and nursing care. The Adelbert von Chamisso Prize (German ''Adelbert-von-Chamisso-Preis'') was a German literary award established in 1985, given to a work whose author's mother tongue is not German, as was the case for Adelbert von Chamisso. It was offered by the Robert Bosch Stiftung. In addition to the main prize with a prize money of 15,000 €, one or more promotional prizes ("Förderpreise") with a prize money of 7,000 € and sometimes an honorary award ("Ehrengabe") were given. The prize was created by Harald Weinrich.
