Rivers Of Azerbaijan
The water bodies of Azerbaijan were formed over a long geological timeframe and changed significantly throughout that period. This is particularly evidenced by remnants of ancient rivers found throughout the country. The country's water systems are continually changing under the influence of natural forces and human introduced industrial activities. Artificial rivers (canals) and ponds are a part of Azerbaijan's water systems. The hydrography of Azerbaijan basically belongs to the Caspian Sea basin. Kur-Araz Lowland
The Kura-Aras Lowland, Kura-Aras Depression or Kura-Aras Basin ( az, Kür-Araz ovalığı) is a vast depression in central-southern Azerbaijan defined by the valleys of the Kura River and Aras River. It is situated by the West shore of the Caspian Sea and is part of the Aral-Caspian Depression. It is delimited by the Greater Caucasus from the North, Lesser Caucasus from the West and the Talysh Mountains from the South. The name is derived from the names of the two rivers in the area: the Kura and the Aras. The Vileshchay ( az, Viləşçay, tly, Viləşərü, script=Latn) is a river of Azerbaijan. It is one of the larger rivers of the country, flowing into the Caspian Sea in southeastern Azerbaijan. Overview Vilesh is a part of Gizil-Agach State Reserve, an ecological haven for migrating birds, created in 1929. The river is long with the basin size of . The Tartar ( az, Tərtərçay, hy, Թարթառ) is one of the tributaries of the Kura located in Azerbaijan. It passes through the districts of Kalbajar, Barda and Tartar. The Hakari ( az, Həkəri, ) is a left tributary of the Aras in Azerbaijan, geographically located in the Armenian Highlands. The river is long and flows through the Lachin, Qubadli and Zangilan districts of Azerbaijan.
