Rivermont Records
Rivermont Records is an independent American record label that specializes in ragtime, jazz, and hot dance music. The company issues recordings of contemporary ragtime pianists and traditional jazz orchestras, and reissues rare vintage recordings of dance bands from the 1910-1930 era. Rivermont was founded in Lynchburg, Virginia in 2003 by pianist and musicologist Bryan S. Wright. The label is distributed in the United States by City Hall Records. Rivermont has been nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Album Notes three times: in 2010, 2018 and 2021. Ragtime, also spelled rag-time or rag time, is a musical style that flourished from the 1890s to 1910s. Its cardinal trait is its syncopated or "ragged" rhythm. Ragtime was popularized during the early 20th century by composers such as Scott Joplin, James Scott and Joseph Lamb. Ragtime pieces (often called "rags") are typically composed for and performed on piano, though the genre has been adapted for a variety of instruments and styles.
