Rivermont Records
Rivermont Records is an independent American record label that specializes in ragtime, jazz, and hot dance music. The company issues recordings of contemporary ragtime pianists and traditional jazz orchestras, and reissues rare vintage recordings of dance bands from the 1910-1930 era. The label's issues include 78 RPM vinyl in the microgroove format which are playable with a contemporary turntable and stylus. Rivermont was founded in Lynchburg, Virginia in 2003 by pianist and musicologist Bryan S. Wright. The label is distributed in the United States by City Hall Records. Rivermont has been nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Album Notes three times: in 2010, 2018 and 2021. Ragtime, also spelled rag-time or rag time, is a musical style that had its peak from the 1890s to 1910s. Its cardinal trait is its Syncopation, syncopated or "ragged" rhythm. Alex Mendham
Alex Mendham (born 13 September 1989) is a British bandleader, singer, and saxophonist known for reviving the music and glamour of the Jazz Age. He is the founder and leader of Alex Mendham & His Orchestra, a transatlantic ensemble recognised for its authentic recreations of 1920s and 1930s dance band repertoire. Through historically faithful arrangements, period instruments, and a meticulous visual style, Mendham brings the golden age of popular music to contemporary audiences. Ian Whitcomb
Ian Timothy Whitcomb (10 July 1941 – 19 April 2020) was an English entertainer, singer-songwriter, record producer, writer, broadcaster and actor. As part of the British Invasion, his hit song " You Turn Me On" reached number 8 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 chart in 1965. He wrote several books on popular music, beginning with '' After the Ball'', published by Penguin Books (Britain) and Simon & Schuster (United States) in 1972. He accompanied his singing by playing the ukulele and, through his records, concerts, and film work, helped to stimulate the revival of interest in the instrument. Martin Spitznagel is an American old-time pianist known for his clean and fast stride piano arrangements. Spitznagel's career began at the age 14, when he won Calliope Media's "Crazy For Ragtime" competition in 1996 and 1997. He took home the grand prize, which was a Yamaha Disklavier Upright Piano, and he has continued to play ragtime and old-time piano music professionally every since. The Singapore Slingers
The Singapore Slingers are an American 18-member orchestra based in Dallas, Texas that specializes in performing pre-swing American dance music, with a particular focus on popular songs of the 1920s and early 1930s. They have been called the "coolest, quirkiest, retro jazz group" in Dallas by the local press. They are the only group of their kind in Dallas, with a repertoire that regularly features fox trots, waltzes, marches, one-steps, two-steps, rags, tangos, and rumbas. Tom Roberts (born 1962) is an American pianist, composer, and arranger, a specialist in the stride piano style, and a expert on early jazz piano and jazz recordings. Tom is a master of all early jazz piano styles including ragtime, boogie woogie, swing, New Orleans jazz, and Harlen Stride piano.
