Richard Humphreys (writer)
Richard Humphreys (born 1953) was the Curator of Programme Research at Tate Britain and Deputy Chairman of the London Consortium, of which he was a founding member. He is the author of a number of books, including ''Wyndham Lewis'' (London: Tate Publishing, 2004), and is editor of the Tate’s ''British Artists'' series. He worked at the Tate Britain from 1981 to 2008 as a curator, and acted as Head of Education and Interpretation from 1991 to 2001. Richard Humphreys (philanthropist)
Richard Humphreys (February 13, 1750 – 1832) was a silversmith who founded a school for African Americans in Philadelphia. Originally called the African Institute it was renamed the Institute for Colored Youth and eventually became Cheyney University of Pennsylvania, the oldest historically black university in the United States. Bequest Humphreys was a Quaker philanthropist who bequeathed $10,000, one-tenth of his estate, to establish a school for "the descendants of the African race". This Institute for Colored Youth, later renamed Cheyney University, was founded in 1837 to provide educational opportunities for African Americans. Humphreys changed his will to include this bequest in 1829 after race riots occurred in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Cincinnati riots of 1829."The second bequest is of $10,000.00 for the purpose of founding an institution for the education of the descendants of the African race. Richard Humphreys (judge)
Richard Humphreys is an Irish judge and lawyer who has served as a Judge of the High Court since October 2015. He was previously a barrister, legal academic, political adviser, and was a member of Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown County Council for the Labour Party. Early life Humphreys attended St Michael's College, Dublin, graduating in 1984. He received BCL and LLM law degrees from University College Dublin in 1988 and 1989 respectively. While a student at UCD, Humphreys was the auditor of the L&H society between 1986 and 1987. During his term in charge of the society, it hosted the World Universities Debating Championship. He subsequently attended the King's Inns and obtained a PhD in law from Trinity College Dublin. Legal career He was called to the Bar in 1991 and became a senior counsel in 2009. Dick Humphreys
Dick Humphreys (1896-1968) was a member of the Irish Volunteers and participated in the Easter Rising in 1916, serving in the General Post Office with his uncle, The O'Rahilly. Born in Limerick in 1896, Humphreys was a son of Dr. David Humphreys and Nell Humphreys and a brother of Sheila Humphreys. The family moved to Dublin in 1909 and was a pupil in Padraig Pearse's school, St. Enda's, in Ranelagh and later in Rathfarnham when the school moved there. After the Easter rising, Humphreys was arrested and detained in Wakefield Prison where he wrote an account of the events of Easter week He was a member of the IRA during the War of Independence, 1919–21, and was imprisoned in Mountjoy Prison where he went on hunger strike. In November 1920 he qualified as a barrister in King's Inns. As part of the 50 year commemoration of the rising in 1966 his reminiscences of Easter week were recorded by RTÉ. Richard Franklin Humphreys
Richard Franklin Humphreys (May 16, 1911 – August 8, 1968) was a physicist and President of Cooper Union. Early life and career Humphreys was born in Greenville, Ohio and in 1933 earned a bachelors degree from DePauw University. This was followed by a master's degree in 1936 at Syracuse University and a Ph.D. at Yale University in 1939. He eventually became an associate professor of physics at Yale, where he was the acting director of Yale's Sloane Physics Laboratory and carried out underwater sound research for the US federal government. Ritchie Humphreys
Ritchie John Humphreys (born 30 November 1977) is an English former professional footballer. He is a former chairman of the Professional Footballers' Association (PFA) and holds a UEFA A Licence coaching qualification. Humphreys started his career with Premier League club Sheffield Wednesday in 1996. Whilst with the club, he was loaned out to Scunthorpe United and Cardiff City. He also won five caps for England at under-20 and under-21 levels. He left the club in 2001 and joined Cambridge United for a short period, after which he joined Hartlepool United. He joined Port Vale on loan in 2006. He left Hartlepool in July 2013, and moved on to Chesterfield. Whilst at Chesterfield in 2014 he appeared at Wembley Stadium in the final of the Football League Trophy and helped the club to the League Two title in 2013–14.
