Revue Records
Revue Records was an American subsidiary record label of MCA Incorporation. Revue was operated by the same management team that ran Universal City (UNI) Records. Revue was created in 1967 to exclusively cater to the R&B market. The label primarily released singles, but from 1968 until its dissolution, albums were released. In 1971, MCA merged Uni Records and other subsidiaries to become MCA Records. MCA Records
MCA Records was an American record label owned by MCA Inc., which later became part of Universal Music Group. Pre-history MCA Inc., a powerful talent agency and a television production company, entered the recorded music business in 1962 with the purchase of the New York-based US Decca Records (established in 1934), including Coral Records and Brunswick Records. MCA was forced to exit the talent agency business in order to complete the merger. As American Decca owned Universal Pictures, MCA assumed full ownership of Universal and made it into a top film studio, producing several hits. The Chi-Lites
The Chi-Lites (, ) are an American R&B/soul vocal quartet from Chicago, Illinois, United States. Forming at Chicago's Hyde Park High School in 1959, The group's original lineup consisted of singers Robert Lester, Eugene Record, Creadel Jones, Clarence Johnson, Burt Bowen, Eddie Reed and Marshall Thompson. The Chi-Lites' greatest fame came during the late 1960s through the early 1970s (with members Record, Jones, Lester and Thompson), scoring eleven Top Ten R&B hits from 1969 until 1974. Ural Thomas (born 21 December 1939) is an American soul music singer. While Thomas has made music for over fifty years, his public performances span two eras: the 1950s through 1960s, and as Ural Thomas and the Pain from 2013 through the present. Early life and career Thomas was born in Louisiana, learning to sing in church. The seventh of sixteen children, his family relocated to Portland, Oregon when he was a young child. He attended Jefferson High School. Thomas became a professional singer in the 1950s as a young man, with over forty performances at the Apollo Theater. Stu Gardner
Stuart Gardner is an American musician and composer. He is known for his collaborations with Bill Cosby, and for co-writing "Kiss Me", the theme song of Cosby's sitcom ''The Cosby Show''. He produced the album '' A House Full of Love: Music from The Cosby Show'', and was the musical director of ''Cos'', ''The Cosby Show'' and its spin-off, ''A Different World''. Career Gardner appeared in the 1967 film '' Point Blank'' as the singer in the nightclub scene, singing, "Mighty Good Times", which was written by Gardner, and appears on the film's soundtrack album. In 1971, Gardner had a record album out, ''Big Mouth'' which was produced by David Briggs. Among the musicians playing on the album were Kent Sprague and Gary Stovall. Eddie & Ernie were an American soul duo in the 1960s, comprising Eddie Campbell (December 23, 1940 – July 10, 1994) and Ernie "Sweetwater" Johnson (October 22, 1943 – August 20, 2005). Based in Phoenix, Arizona, the duo sang in gospel groups before working as backing vocalists from the early 1960s. They had a minor R&B hit with "Time Waits For No One" in 1965. Mike James Kirkland
Mike James Kirkland (born 1949 in Yazoo City, Mississippi) is an American R&B singer. He began his recording career in 1965, as leader of Mike & The Censations, a quartet which included his brother Robert, their sister and her husband. He was also half of the duo Bo and Ruth on Claridge Records who achieved a U.K. Top 20 single with their release of "You're Gonna Get Next To Me" (credited to Bo Kirkland and Ruth Davis) in the summer of 1977. The Mirettes
The Mirettes were a female vocal trio composed of former members of the Ikettes in the Ike & Tina Turner Revue. History Robbie Montgomery, Venetta Fields and Jessie Smith were the first official incarnation of the Ikettes, a backing trio for Ike & Tina Turner. In 1965, the Ikettes had a top 40 pop hit with "Peaches 'N' Cream" and a top 20 R&B hit with "I'm So Thankful" on Modern Records. As their popularity grew, Ike Turner sent a different set of Ikettes on the road with "The Dick Clark Caravan of Stars" and kept Montgomery, Smith, and Fields on tour with his revue which caused much annoyance to the trio. They also were not receiving the extra money from their hits, so they left the revue in late 1965. Garland Green (born Garfield Green Jr., June 14, 1942) is an American soul singer and pianist. Biography Born in Dunleith, Mississippi, United States, Green was the tenth child of eleven in his family. He lived in Mississippi until 1958 when he moved to Chicago. While working and attending Englewood High, he sang on weekends, and one day while singing in a pool room, he was overheard by Argia B. Collins, a local owner of a barbeque chain. Collins agreed to bankroll Green's attendance at the Chicago Conservatory of Music, where Green studied voice and piano, and played in local bars and clubs.
