Renold Schilke
Renold Otto Schilke (Green Bay, June 30, 1910 – September 5, 1982) was a professional orchestral trumpet player, instrument designer and manufacturer. He founded and ran Schilke Music Products Incorporated, a manufacturer of brass instruments and mouthpieces. Youth Renold Schilke was born June 30, 1910 in Green Bay, Wisconsin. He began playing cornet at age 8. Arnold Jacobs
Arnold Maurice Jacobs (June 11, 1915 – October 7, 1998) was an American tubist who spent most of his career with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. He held that position from 1944 until his retirement in 1988. Jacobs was considered one of the foremost brass pedagogues of his time as well as an expert on breathing as it related to brasswind, woodwind, and vocal performance. Philip Farkas
Philip Farkas (March 5, 1914 – December 21, 1992) was the principal French horn player in the Chicago Symphony Orchestra for many years, and he left in 1960 to join the music faculty at Indiana University Bloomington. His books include ''The Art of French Horn Playing'' (considered the field's seminal work), ''The Art of Brass Playing'', ''The Art of Musicianship'', and ''A Photo Study of 40 Virtuoso Horn Players' Embouchures''. Elden Benge
Elden Eugene Benge (July 12, 1904 in Winterset, Iowa – December 13, 1960 in Los Angeles, California), was the principal trumpet of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra from 1928–1933; he held the same position in the Chicago Symphony Orchestra from 1933-1939. After moving to Chicago he began to experiment with designing his own trumpet, taking measurements from his personal instrument, a French Besson. By the end of 1935, using pre-made components along with parts he fashioned, he constructed a trumpet for his own use. He continued refining the process and began selling the instruments, until, in 1937, he was able to manufacture and assemble trumpets using parts solely made in his home workshop.
